President’s Message by Peter Arcidiacono 821-7499

Hi Everyone, Join in on Club Activities! We have our normal Thursday meeting on the 7th and the “DEAL OR NO DEAL” on Friday, February 8th ! I would hope that you all have money saved up! It is being held at Walker’s showroom on Bald Eagle. This is turning out to be the biggest yet! We are going to have all kinds of experienced fishing equipment as well as local tackle manufactures. Please get there on time to insure a good parking spot and first crack at all the merchandise. Hours of the event are 4PM TO 7PM. NO EARLY BIRDS-WE NEED SET UP TIME. For all you anglers out there, IT’S SHEEPSHEAD TIME. We are accepting registrations for our World Famous Sheepshead Shootout. Rules and other information will be at the meeting. Last year we had 50+ anglers, let’s see if we can beat that number. One last note. From time to time I send out reminder emails, whether or not it’s about the meeting, dues or events, to the entire membership. So if the email reminds everyone to pay dues and you have already paid dues, please ignore the email. I am sorry for any confusion I caused earlier this month. Remember: Be nice to your shrimp and they will nice to you.

See ya’ at the bait shop, Pete A

Kayak Outing in Upper Lighter Bay; January 10, 2013

Four kayaks traversed Goodland Bay and ventured into Hell’s Gate which is an entry point into upper Lighter Bay. The channel has good depth and many ambush points favored by game fish. Conditions were tough due to a low tide and strong winds which made it difficult for our kayaks to hold their position. We fished the Hell’s Gate Channel and upper Lighter Bay. A variety of fish were caught with Jay Jones catching the largest fish; a 27” Black Grouper which was measured, photographed and released.

We skipped lunch and headed over to the Crazy Flamingo for beers and fried fish caught during the Ed Brown’s trout scramble. A fun day was had by all.

January 17, 2013 Buddy Trip

The group consisted of 24 people fishing on 8 boats. Unfortunately one boat had to prematurely return to the dock because it was taking on water. Our first stop was around the Camp Key area. The air movement was practically zero and the water was very calm. This of course, created a bug problem. After about 20 minutes trying to fish while being eaten alive, we moved on to be bug free. The anglers enjoyed a warm sunny day with light winds until about 2:30 PM. At that point the clouds became foreboding and ominous and a considerable wind developed. All of a sudden we encountered a light rain and white caps on the waters. Everyone headed back to the dock to get ready for the evening festivities.

Fishing was OK. The catch consisted of bonnet head sharks (lots of them), speckled trout, silver trout, whiting, Spanish mackerel, jacks, and of course catfish. That evening, a group of 40 people enjoyed cocktails and dinner at Ristorante La Piazza. Our host/owner, Mario made a special menu labeled “Welcome Fishermen of Marco”. The menu consisted of ten appetizing choices. The dinner was excellent and many people spoke of the quality of the food that came with pleasant staff offering great service. It was a wonderful evening; the perfect ending to a magnificent day on the water! If you have any questions/comments or wish to be added to the Buddy List contact Joe Perino at rivpress@aol.com

Spotted Sea Trout Scramble Results by Ed Brown The 1st Spotted Sea Trout Scramble held on January 9, 2013 is history. I would like to thank all of the fishermen that chose to compete in the Trout Scramble. We had 43 fishermen in 16 different boats. The weather and water clarity did not cooperate with us. The winds were very breezy and the water was very cloudy to muddy. Even with the bad conditions we still had 4 boats that caught legal spotted sea trout. The Spotted Sea Trout Scramble prizes were based on which boat could catch a legal limit of spotted sea trout (total inches of four fish) and the largest spotted sea trout.

The winners were: Total Inches per Boat 1st Place - Ron Linn-Joe Cafferelli- Ed Brown with 65 total inches. 2nd Place – Jeff Erickson-Peter Prodanov-Cathy Erickson with 48.75 total inches. 3rd Place - Jim Mueller – Capt Pete with 32.5 total inches. Largest Fish 1st Place – Joe Cafferelli – 18 inches 2nd Place – Pete Arcidiacono – 17 inches 3rd Place – Peter Prodanov – 16.75 inches

I would like to thank Crazy Flamingo for providing wings and cheese rolls and cooking our fish at our Captains’ meetings.
