    Hiram Powers Transferred to

    Asylum By Penitentiary

    Officials

    Hiram C Powers who was triedfor the murder of Fitzhugh Renfrow in the Circuit Court here lastAugust and sentpnced to twentvoneyears in the State prisonwas taken tothe Eddy ville penitentiary last Fridayby Sheriff R B Martin and turnedover to the proper authorities

    Immediately after Sheriff Martinhad turned Powers over to the prison officials and taken their receiptfor him a deputy Sheriff executeda lunacy warrant on Powers and aninquest into his sanity was held theHofLyoned and after hearing tne evidenceoffered by attorneys representingPowers a verdict < o the effect thatho is of unsound mind was returnedPowers was later transferred to theHopkinsville asylum where he willprobably become a pet of the officialsin charge who is reported to havedone much to defeat the ends of jus ¬tice in the matter

    It is the general opinion thatPowers will remain quietly at Hop ¬kinsville for a few short monthsthen like Warrencr the murderer ofPulaski Leeds steal gently awaynever to be heard of again whilepoor Fitzhugh Renfrow yet sleepsthe long sleep of death to whichPowers resigned him on the 31st dayof March 1905
