Film Developing – B & W

The process by which the latent image in an

exposed photographic emulsion is converted

into a visible image is called developing.

The image obtained is in reverse tone &

hence termed negative.

Film Developing – B & WDuring developing a B & W exposed film passes through the following stages :-1. Developer – converts the exposed silver

halides into black metallic silver of different density.

2. Stop bath – Stops the action of the developer.

3. Fixer – Dissolves the unexposed silver halides.

4. Wash - To wash the traces of fixer.

Developing time depends on :-

1. Nature of developer – Different formulae of

developers have different developing times.

2. Temperature - More the temperature less the

developing time & vice versa.

3. Film Speed – More the film speed more the

time.

4. Dilution of developer – More the dilution more

the time.
