Advantages
Lizards are a part of the food web. They eat in-
sects and some eat fruits. Snakes like to eat liz-
ards. They help to keep nature in balance.
Lizard skins can be used like leather to make items
such as shoes, belts, and handbags.
Some Asian cultures use the gecko in medicine
to treat asthma.
Interesting Facts
Lizards including geckos molt or
shed their skin as they grow.
Geckos use their tongues to clean
their eyes because they dont have
eyelids.
The gecko can lose its tail to es-
cape predators but it will grow
back.
Adaptations
Fall
Lizards live in tropical places. Nights
can be too cold for them in the fall.
They go into their under-ground bur-
rows and sleep until it warms up again.
Winter
Lizards migrate to warmer places and
hibernate.
Spring
Lizards adapt by increasing and de-
creasing their body heat to adapt to
the changing climate. They blend in
with the leaves.
Summer
Lizards may be seen in the early morn-
ing, heat of a summer day is too much
for them, so they will seek shelter in
holes.
Diagram ofGecko
Lizards live in different kinds of habitats.
You can find them on every continent except
Antarctica. They are cold-blooded so they
have to regulate their body temperature.
When its cool they seek warmth from the
sun. When it gets hot they look for shade.
