Translation of the description of the family's origins in the

z a b o called S art o r i u s, Emperor Fort Officer of the Castle Szchnyi in the County of Ngrd,and to his son Georgius S z c h n y i , Cardinal of Gyr and Primate of Hungary); Hungarian title
of Count *, Vienna, March 3, 1697 (to his nephew George S z c h n y i ) ; Hungarian Entitlement,
Srvr, November 28, 1728; Hereditary Count of the Castles Egervr, Plske and Szent-Gyrgyvr."(This entitlement was issued at Srvr. The castles of Srvr, Egervar, Plske and Szent-Gyrgyvar
were located in the upper part of Hungary. Thus the appendix "of Srvr and Upper Country" was
added to the Szchnyi name.)(* Such letters and documents of titles were issued by the King or Emperor)
"Coat of Arms. (1697) : In four parts, held together in the center by a crowned golden shield
containing a silver dove with an olive branch in its beak, standing on a golden leaf-crown, which restson a green triple mound; parts 1 and 4 are red, and contain a silver patriarch-cross (double cross)
which stands on a green triple hill, parts 2 and 3 are blue, and contain a golden leaf crown from whicha black, gold crowned eagle is starting his flight towards the sun depicted as a smiling,
golden face emanating from the top left corner."(The family adopted the motto: "Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?" If God is with us, who is against
us?" which has been inscribed under most depictions of the family's Coat of Arms.)
The three Lines of the family originate trom the sons of Count Francis de Paula, John, Joseph,Szchnyi of Srvr and Fels5videk, * 1754, 1820
They are:
Count Ludwig (Lajos) Szchnyi, *1781 tl855
Count Paul (Pal) Szchnyi, *1789 11871
Count Stephan (Istvn) Szchnyi, * 1791 t 1860
He was one of Hungary's most revered statesmen, referred to even to this day as the
"Greatest Hungarian. " His accomplishments were numerous, his forward looking idealsserve as exemplary goals to be strived for by all following generations.
Countess Elize (Isabel) Szchnyi was a daughter of Count Pal. She married Don Pedro Caro yAlvarez de Toledo.
