Enjoy YOUR life made easier with Family Organiser!

Introduction

Hints from one busy person to another...

• Keep your sense of humour and try not to take things too seriously.

• Be kind to yourself! It is okay to say ‘no’ to avoid over-committing your time. Also, if someone

offers you help, accept it.

• Among your circle of friends, try establishing a regular good-deed exchange. For example, if three friends add extra quantities to a dish they are preparing, freeze two spare servings then swap with each other, that will save everyone two nights of cooking. You might even gain

a new recipe for your collection!

• Try to fit a little ‘me time’ into your day (or week at the very least). Whether it is as simple as reading the paper,

sipping a hot beverage or soaking in a relaxing bath, take time to stop and reflect on what you have.

During times of your own ill health or that of someone under your care (possibly even a pet) this table helps you record details to report to health practitioners.

As symptoms of an ailment arise it may help to record noticeable changes. This will help you speak to your

health care professional with certainty about the order and rate at which symptoms appear and disappear.

Naturally, this tool does not apply to emergencies or obvious sudden illnesses for which you would seek

immediate medical attention.

Everyone has goals. Whether we are conscious of them is another matter. Personal, household budget, career,

health and travel aspirations are just some areas of interest where people set goals.

Some of us are innately disciplined with setting targets in our life and achieving them. Others need greater

encouragement and help - a little nudge to get going and the guidance to stay motivated. That’s where our

unique Family Goals tool comes in!

Is there something you really want? Writing down what you want is a great start to achieving it. Family Goals goes that step further to help you break down your

ideals into simple, achievable actions.

Measurable and specific – not vague, that is the key here! Goals must be achievable and realistic, but the main thing to ensure is that you can look at your goal

and objectively assess your progress. Applying a specific completion date and setting regular check dates with

progress tracking statements, is also essential.

A few Family Goals pages are provided; use one or all of them. Your goals might change and as time

passes you may want to set new ones.

Hints from one busy person to another...

• Get a ‘slow cooker’ for easy meal preparation. Most come with a variety of wholesome recipes. Throw

ingredients into the ‘slow cooker’ in the morning, continue with your day and by afternoon, a fabulous meal is ready.

• Grocery shopping uses up valuable time, which is very likely better spent elsewhere. Investigate the option

for online or local grocery delivery direct to your home or workplace. Prices are competitive when you consider your time saved and reduced exposure to

impulse buying at the supermarket.

• Prepare the night before! Lunches, day care/school bags, ironing or laying clothes out – organise whatever

you can to eliminate the ‘morning scramble’.

• When doing the housework, turn some music up.You’ll be surprised how quickly you finish when

distracted by your favourite tune.

Hints from one busy person to another...

• A great accompaniment to a ‘gift cupboard’ (read more under Gift Ideas) is a ‘gift card folder’. Into a ring-binder place 12

monthly dividers and several plastic sleeves behind each. On each divider, write names and occasions (eg birthdays and

anniversaries) for that month. Insert cards, stamps, wrapping paper - whatever you like - into the plastic sleeves. You’ll be

one step ahead on special occasions all year long!

• Along with your gift stockpile, keep another box containing scissors, wrapping paper, sticky tapeand gift cards. Try buying these items at sale

prices throughout the year.

• Reduce waste and reuse gift wrapping from presents you receive. There’s no shame in re-gifting a perfectly good gift

bag (especially if it doesn’t go back to the original giver!) Many paper and plastic gift bagsare beautifully designed and

will fold flat, making them easy to store.

• Try shopping at discount outlets and second-hand shops, particularly for books, crockery, glassware, handbags and

accessories. There are great buys to be had from discount retailers, and in the case of pre-loved goods, someone

else’s trash is another’s treasure.

• Gift Register

Traditional holidays and special occasions, for which present-giving is customary, are scattered throughout

the year and fairly well known in advance. On occasion, there may also be little notice to

provide a gift for someone.

A practical and financially-savvy way to plan your gift-buying and avoid last-minute expensive purchases is to accumulate appropriate gifts as you find them and

store in a ‘gifts cupboard’. The ‘gifts cupboard’ can save you time, money and certainly the stress of buying under pressure. Quality items can be purchased on sale rather

than paying full price during peak promotional periodsor because you’ve limited time to shop.

This Gift Ideas table helps identify who you have bought gifts for throughout the year and can serve as

the basis of a gifts shopping list.

Hints from one busy person to another...

• Set a budget and stick to it. However, be realistic and remember you need to enjoy yourself too.

• For the budget conscious, try a regular swap of books, DVD’s and magazines with friends and family.

Use your Borrowed & Loaned Items table in this organiser to keep track of who has what.

• Zero dollar days: set a challenge between you and a friend/your partner to not spend a single dollar on a particular day. The loser can make dinner for the

other or do something special for the other that requires only the giving of their time.

• Make use of your local library. If the last time you visited a library was in your childhood, it’s time to

reacquaint yourself. Libraries offer amazing resources from books, magazines and newspapers to DVD’s, CD’s

and more. Most libraries also have an online hold service; just reserve what you want and collect

it when notification of its availability arrives.

To assist with budgeting, this table allows you to track and schedule expenses. It’s a simple yet effective tool because when you write down everything you spend, it

becomes possible to answer the question: “where does all my money go?” If required, you can then identify

where to make changes in your spending.

Rebates and cash-back offers also apply to some types of outlays, for example medical expenses

and promotional offers attached to certain goods. If you are entitled to such rebates, these can be

listed in the expenses table.

A space at top allows you to label and categorise separate lists.

Hints from one busy person to another...

• Don’t try to remember everything! Write details down in this organiser and keep it with you as a ready-reference.

• Keep this organiser on your bedside table for those ‘moments of brilliance’ and random ‘notes to self’ that

seem to come just before you fall asleep. You think you’ll remember in the morning but more than likely forget.

• Laundry ‘delicates bags’ are great for keeping together toys and hobby kits comprising lots of little pieces. Often

made of mesh-style fabric, it is easy to see what is inside without opening the bag.

• Save yourself time and avoid re-tracing your steps. Before you leave a room, look for anything (dirty washing,

an empty glass, a perused newspaper), which canbe cleared away right then and there. Don’t leave

the room empty handed...it all helps!
