Planning the Adventure
• Trail length varies by child’s age– 2 – 4 years old: ½ to 2 miles– 5 – 7 years old: 3 to 4 miles– 8 – 9 years old: 6 to 7 miles
• Limit backpack to 20% of child’s weight
• Stop when necessary
Packing the Supplies
• Child’s favorite wholesome foods– Fruit and pretzels
• Water
• Sunscreen– SPF 45 or higher is best
• Insect repellent

• Dress in layers– Kids get cold more quickly than adults do
• Wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt– Protect against ticks and cuts
• Wear a hat– Keeps body warmer in winter
