Fall 2019 Percussion Auditions for the Instrumental Ensemble Pools. 10 minute auditions will be held August 22 from 2-6 pm in Gammage 311. Evaluating the performances will be J. B. Smith and Jason Caslor. Audition sign-up will be administered on-line through the ensemble website: https://music.asu.edu/node/2602 Ensemble Selection and Rehearsals Following auditions, in consultation with studio faculty members, conductors will assign all students to ensembles. There will be four pools of percussionists,

Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra and Musical Theatre pit orchestra: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1-2:55, MUP 442 (undergraduates students) or MUP 542 (graduate students) Topic: Wind Orchestra

Wind Ensemble: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3, MUP 442 or MUP 542 Topic: Wind Ensemble

Concert Band: Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30-9, MUP 494 or 598 Topic: Concert Band

Philharmonia: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:45, MUP 442 or MUP 542 Topic: Philharmonia

Course Registration In most cases, students should elect “one hour” of credit; however, those students wishing to participate in multiple sections of each project period (e.g., orchestras and wind bands) may elect two hours, if their overall course load permits. Following the August audition period, students will be advised to “drop” or “add” an hour, as determined by their ensemble assignments. Audition Repertoire Snare: Rimsky-Korsakov—Capriccio Espagnol, (Third movement to K) and Shostakovich—Symphony No. 10 (Second movement, 98-end) Xylophone: Kabalevsky—Colas Breugnon (9-12 and 36-37) Bells: Kodaly—Hary Janos Suite, Second movement (6-7) and Sixth movement (beginning to 1) Timpani: Tchaikovsky—Symphony No. 4, First movement (S+7 to V) and Mahler—Symphonie 5, Movement 1 rehearsal numbers 7-9; Movement 3, rehearsal number 32 to the end Tambourine: Dvorak—Carnival Overture, beginning to C
