Goals for 2014-15: UPDATES

Team PrISUm earned its first ever overall win at the Formula Sun Grand Prix.

Iowa State Steel Bridge placed second in ASCE Midwest Region Student Steel Bridge Competition.

Catherine Meis, senior in MSE, was named a 2015 Goldwater Scholar. 

Hillary Kletscher, BSE/MBA student, was named Wallace E. Barron All-University Senior. 

Joshua Moreno, AERE senior, selected for Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. 

Goals for 2014-15: UPDATES

Hire at least 20 new, diverse, high-quality faculty members

• Successful searches all with strong applicant pools

• Hired 17 tenure/tenure track faculty, including 5 as part of the Presidential High-Impact Initiative

• Added 7 new lecturer positions

Increase the number of graduate students who have enrolled or accepted admission by 5%• 1,363 graduate students expected for fall 2015 — 7.6% increase

• Graduate research student increase initiative provides recruitment funds to increase numbers — college and departments provide funds 1st year; supported by researchers in 2nd year

• CoE faculty associated with 12+ significant research awards in the $1M to $5M range, the top six include:• Center for Biorenewable Chemicals

(CBiRC) awarded maximum funding

• EPSCoR: Sustainable energy systems

• Information Assurance Scholarship

• Demonstration Scale Production Of Biobased Thermoplastic Elastomers

• INTRANS: Highway Research

• CIRAS: Industrial Services

Goals for 2014-15: UPDATESEngineering space cleanup

• Worked extensively with all departments and units on massive cleanup

• Removed 100 tons of metal scrap from properties and found 10,000 square feet of space (worth $4M)

• Moving student organizations to reactor warehouse

• Cleaned Spangler Hall and Fisk Observatory and turned back over to university

• Student Innovation Center: Approved• Coover: Developing plans to upgrade the HVAC, sprinkler and life safety

systems. Consider lighting and interior upgrades; window replacement underway

• Town: Developing plans for an undergraduate advising center and an active learning center

Raise $25M in new private gifts

• $30.0M in new private gifts ($11.2M gifts and pledges; $18.8M deferred commitments)

• Best fundraising year ever in college

• Marston Hall fundraising $9.4M committed

• Gifts supported scholarships, fellowships, named faculty positions, building renovations and college programs

Impacting the Iowa Economy• Over 550 ISU engineering interns were employed by over

250 different Iowa employers located in over 90 communities in 60 counties

• In 2014, 1,548 businesses from 97 Iowa counties received assistance on projects or attended educational workshops from CIRAS staff and partners. Companies reported $386 million of total economic impact:

• $329 million in sales gained or retained• $45 million in new investments• $12 million in costs saved or avoided• 5,154 jobs added or retained• Over the past five years, CIRAS and partners reported impact totaling over

$2 billion dollars with 29,290 jobs added or retained

Goals :• Deliver a high quality education to all of our students• Hire at least 20 new faculty members and 2 new department chairs• Increase the number of graduate students by 5%• Expand the research portfolio by seeking larger scale projects and increasing

expenditures by 5%• Continue space planning, renovation and building in 2015-16• Raise at least $25M in new private gifts• Continue preparation for comprehensive campaign
