Extractive Industries Contracts Database beta

Preview:

DESCRIPTION

In response to country demands for greater transparency in and understanding of extractive industry contracts, the World Bank Institute, Africa Region and Revenue Watch Institute together with supporting partners are launching the Extractive Industries Contracts Database. This online, searchable database of oil, gas and mining contracts includes and easy-to-use interface that allows users to search a rich repository of existing contracts as well as download them for reference. Given that extractive industry contracts have historically been shrouded in secrecy, this database provides a range of stakeholders-- including government, non-governmental organizations, think tanks and parliamentarians-- equal access to information on extractive industry deals. Greater understanding of and access to contracts can inform the negotiation of future contracts and ensure better development outcomes from extractive activities. This presentation showcased and invited feedback on the beta database, which currently includes contracts from resource-rich countries in Africa.
