Latin America an Economic Overview 2004The Latin America and the Caribbean region is inThe midst of a strong recovery (most Countriesin the region are expected to grow at about 4percent or higher in 2004), after several years oflow growth starting in 1999.

• The recovery is stronger in countries that are bouncing back from acute crisis: Argentina,Uruguay and Venezuela, all of which are expected to grow at over 7 percent in 2004.

• Brazil and Mexico are expected to grow atabout 4 percent.

• The Andean countries are performing well, withChile, Colombia and Peru expected to record growth above 4 percent in 2004.

• Central America is expected to grow by anaverage 3.5 percent in 2004 and looks set tosustain growth, thanks to the recently signedCAFTA agreement.
