The 19th
edition of BengaluruITE.biz 2016, organized by Department of Information Technology,
Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka and Software Technology
Parks of India (STPI) Bengaluru was held from November 28th
to 30th
, 2016.
Keeping in view the fact that technological innovations happen in Bengaluru, the theme of
Bengaluru ITE.biz 2016 event was aptly chosen as 'Define the Next'. The 3-day event had the
support of leading IT and Electronics Associations, such as NASSCOM, IESA, TiE, ABAI, Data
Security Council of India (DSCI) etc with representation of countries like Japan, UK, Germany,
Netherlands, Korea, Israel and Australia.
The Inaugural The dignitaries for the inaugural of 19th edition of BengaluruITE.biz were Shri. Siddaramaiah,
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. R.V. Deshpande, Hon’ble Minister for LMI &
Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka, Mr. K.J. George, Hon’ble Minister for
Bengaluru Development and Town Planning, Government of Karnataka, Mr. Priyank Kharge,
Hon’ble Minister of State for IT & BT and Tourism, Government of Karnataka, Mr. Karsten Klein,

The event focused on topics like Artificial Intelligence, IoT,
Robotics, Virtual Reality (VR) & Augmented Reality (AR), Spatial
Technologies, Aerospace & Defence, Future of Electronics, AVGC,
Disruptive ideas, Tier 2 & 3 cities as Destinations, Design, Cyber Security,
Startups and Entrepreneurship Development among many others.
• Rural wi-fi services in 11 Gram Panchayats through KEONICS was
launched.
• The Hon’ble CM launched the Grand Challenge Karnataka, a
Government initiative under the multi-sector Start-up Policy to
scout for new technologies or innovations that can offer solutions
to some of the prevalent problems in the State.
• Prominent business leaders like Mr. Bhrath Ghosh,
Mr. Anant Maheshwari and Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan paid special
attention to the fact that, this has probably been the best edition
since its inception with focus being given to varied verticals.
• International Perspectives – country presentations by seven nations
- Germany, Korea, Netherlands, Taiwan, Australia, Israel and Japan
talking about their conducive ecosystems and opportunities for
collaborations. Also participation of international trade delegations
from Japan, Netherlands and Taiwan was a welcome highlight.
• MoU with The Hague, Netherlands and the Government of
Karnataka for collaboration in the fields of technology for elderly
care, genetic research, Startups and Cyber security and MoU with
Japan to drive skill development and employment in IT and
Electronics sectors were signed.
• Organisations like NASSCOM, TiE, IESA, ABAI, DSCI, Spread, KSRSAC,
Creativity World Forum and other partners played pivotal roles in
structuring the theme, content as well as steering invigorative
conference sessions.

• The highlights of the day included the CEO Conclave and the
Fireside Chat. The CEO Conclave was moderated by
Mr. Krishnakumar Natarajan, Executive Chairman, Mindtree with
panelists including Ms. Rekha Menon, Chairperson, Accenture India
and Mr. Vijay Ratnaparkhe, MD, Bosch; Mr. Sreekanth
Arimanithaya, MD, CSC India; Mr. P. Nagaraju, CGM, BSNL.
• The Fireside Chat was moderated by Mr. C.P. Gurnani,
Chairman NASSCOM and MD & CEO, Tech Mahindra with
Mr. Jim Fowler, Global CIO, GE.
• Panel Discussion on Live Smart, Work Smart moderated by
Ms. Nivruti Roy, GM India & VP, Platform Engineering Group, Intel
Corporation, Mr. Irfan Razack, CMD, Prestige Group, deliberated on
the impact that technology will have in the daily lives of people,
businesses, cities and governments.
• The Aerospace and Defense Panel discussion moderated by
Dr. C.G. Krishnadas Nair, President, SIATI & Former Chairman, HAL,
had an eminent panel including Mr. Philippe Forestier, EVP,
Dassault, which delved into the need for building a sustainable
ecosystem where design excellence, product superiority and
seamless governance could take India into the next big phase.
• The session on Telecom – Translating Digital India into Reality was
attended by Shri. N. Sivasailam, IAS Additional Secretary, DoT in
addition to the leading CEOs from Telecom companies who spoke
about the importance of last mile connectivity and the need for
outreach to remote villages to ensure digital inclusion.
• Focused and extensive sessions were held at the BengaluruITE.biz
on AR, VR & Gaming and Animation and its accompanying
technologies by ABAI had conquered the audience’s attention Mr.
Ashish Limaye, CEO, Happy Finish; Mr. Satheesh Subramanin, VP of
Engineering Blippar; Mr. Pradeep Nair, MD, (India & Saarc)
Auto Desk; Mr. Damien De FroBerbville, GM, Dreamworks;
Mr. Shanmugh Natarajan, ED & VP (Products) Adobe Systems India.
The action filled second day concluded with the STPI IT Export
Awards ceremony.

• The day began with a keynote address by Mr. Swarna Subba Rao,
Surveyor General of India and Mr. Malcolm Havercroft,
Director-Operations, Ordnance Survey International.
• The K-GIS programme mandated the inter-sharing of geospatial data
between multiple departments of Karnataka and also the public for
various planning and developmental needs.
• The next frontier in tech innovations took over in the next
session with a keynote talk by Mr. Hari Menon, Co-Founder & CEO,
BigBasket. He talked about the use of technology in delivering value to
customers.
• The Entrepreneurship panel discussion that followed was moderated
by Mr. Naganand Doraswamy, President TiE Bangalore, Founder MD &
CEO, Idea Springs Capital, and had Mr. Shashank N.D, Founder, Practo;
Mr. Gaurav Hinduja, Co-Founder, Capital Float and Mr. Rahul Narayan,
Team Lead, Axiom Research Labs contributing to the discussion.
• The Design Impact session, moderated by Ms. Sonia Manchanda,
Founding Partner, Spread Design & Learning dwelled on how big and
small companies are leveraging design and technology to define the
next by marrying technology and design to redefine design paradigms
that can open up a whole new world of possibilities. Design Hack had
presentation by 5 Startups.
• Investor panel on Funding for Tech Startups had eminent leaders like
Mr. Rishad Premji, CSO, Wipro; Mr. Samir Kumar, MD Inventus
Advisors; Mr. G.V. Ravishankar, MD, Sequoia Capital and was
moderated by Mr. Sanjay Anandaram, Venture Partner, Seedfund.
• A series of interesting presentations were made by young and new
entrepreneurs under the aegis of Startup Karnataka YESSS.
• The evening concluded in grand style with the first ever Startup
Karnataka Top Tech 25 Awards being.

SPECIAL PROGRAMMES
• Rural IT Quiz: One of the Flagship Programs conducted by the Department of IT & BT, Govt.
of Karnataka in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) helped enhance IT
awareness amongst Students nationwide at the grassroots level, keeping them abreast of
the latest developments in Information Technology.
• Idea Currency: KBITS in collaboration with Workbench Projects supported the cause of
taking top 20 disruptive Ideas which created impact and showcased them at the event.
• Geospatial Technology and Applications Programme: In association with KSRSAC,
NEXT GENERATION APPLICATIONS USING GIS program focused on case studies of
implementation of GIS in the areas of Agriculture, Urban, Forest, Transport, Land records
management, location intelligence and analytics and future technology trends.
• Creativity World Forum (CWF): The annual conference organized by the District of
Creativity (DC) Network, with Creativity and Innovation Platform of Karnataka (CIPK)
brought together progressive thinkers, experts, inventors, practitioners, innovators,
thought leaders and entrepreneurs from all over the world on a single platform to
individuals to ideate and develop new solutions to critical issues in improving regional
economy and quality of life.
The International
Tradeshow
The event had about 160 Exhibitors and Sponsors. The Tradeshow had over 50 start-ups and
featured STPI MSME Pavilion, Start-Up Karnataka Pavilion, ELCIA Pavilion, GIS Pavilion, Experience
Zone, Karnataka Showcase of Initiatives in IT, Electronics, Skills. The exhibitors represented
Software Services, Electronics, Embedded Systems, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Mobility, Security,
e-Governance, ERP etc.
The Tradeshow turned out to be an excellent platform to showcase technologies, solutions,
products, services and innovations providing ample opportunity to gain ultimate business
exposure within the IT & Electronics fraternity. This interactive arm of the event offered an
appropriate platform for new business tie-ups & collaborations and attraction of investments. The
tradeshow attracted about 5000 Visitors.

Innovate in Karnataka, Invest in Karnataka because the future of India is Karnataka. Our tier-II
cities like Mangaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi, Dharwad, Belagavi and Kalaburgi also have skilled
manpower and other necessary infrastructure. I would request IT companies to invest in the tier
two cities and replicate the IT ecosystem of Bengaluru in these places.

Print Media An extensive media plan was carried out to promote the event in various cross section of IT &
Electronics fraternity. The campaign started with launch advt. focusing on Karnataka and one advt.
all India. Later on the momentum was picked up by regular advertisements in South India and
Karnataka. The campaign created good interest in the stakeholders to participate in the event.
The major attraction of the campaign was the 6 Front Page advertisements. Released in the
leading dailies and not to miss the mega advt. of 1513 sqm, almost a full page in Times of India.

Outdoor Out of home (OOH) campaign was done to create awareness about event as well as to get
maximum footfalls at Tradeshow. 1 Mobile van was used to promote the event for 15 days. This
mobile van was planned on a strategic route to from morning to evening during this period. For
the first time 25 Bus Shelters were used at the prominent places to promote the event.
30 Hoardings at key locations were taken before event to generate awareness. There was a
special campaign done with BMRCL as well.
Radio In order to reach out to the IT & Electronics community from Bengaluru an 8 days Radio Campaign
was carried out on leading station Fever 104 FM. This includes various spots, Sponsorship Tags, RJ
Mentions as well as OB Link on inaugural day.
Digital Media • Facebook: The reach & page likes increased slowly at first,
but once we started with paid ads, the reach & page likes
increased rapidly to the numbers we have today
• Twitter: is used for customer engagement, we have done
2,033 tweets till today! We added 492 followers to the page
