What is the difference between assessment and

evaluation?

Assessment is: defined as data-gathering strategies, analyses, and reporting processes that provide information that can be used to determine whether or not intended outcomes are being achieved.

However Evaluation uses assessment information to support decisions on maintaining, changing, or discarding instructional or programmatic practices.

Evaluation is: a developmental process aims to improve the domain that is being assessed through collecting data tools which enable the decision makers to judge the system (program , course

…..) to improve the performance .

Evaluation at its final destination determines the value of something (project – program – curriculum – course ----)

Evaluation may be defined as two kinds:

1 -Qualitative Evaluation. 2 -Quantitative Evaluation.

1 -Qualitative EvaluationIt is an assessment process that answers

the question “How well did we do. ”?
