This is our flag. This is our anthem.

Nad Tatrou sa blyska, hromy divo biju, nad Tatrou sa blyska, hromy divo biju.

Zastavme ich bratia, veď sa ony stratia, Slovaci oziju, zastavme ich bratia, veď sa ony stratia, Slovaci oziju.

To Slovensko nase dosiaľ tvrdo spalo, to Slovensko nase dosiaľ tvrdo spalo.

Ale blesky hromu vzbudzuju ho k tomu, aby sa prebralo, ale blesky hromu vzbudzuju ho k tomu, aby sa prebralo.

Above Tatra bolts of lightning, thunderstorm pounds wildly. Above Tatra bolts of lightning, thunderstorm pounds wildly.

Let's stop them brothers, theywill be lost, Slovaks will rise alive. Let's stop them brothers, they willbe lost, Slovaks will rise alive.

Our Slovakia was in deep sleepuntil now. Our Slovakia was in deep sleep until now.

But thunder's lightning is shakingit to it's revival. But thunder'slightning is shaking it to it'srevival.

THIS WEEK, PEOPLE OF ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN DOGMA, AROUND THE WORLD CELEBRATE THEIR HOLY WEEK AND

EASTER. THE EASTER IS ALWAYS THE FIRST SUNDAY AFTER THE FOOL MOON OF THE SPRING EQUINOX. IN THE

CASE THAT IS ON THE SAME DAY WITH THE JEWISH PASHA, WE CELEBRATE IT ONE WEEK LATER. BECAUSE OF

THIS FACT THE ORTHODOX EASTER IS NOT ALWAYS ON THE SAME DATE WITH THE CATHOLIC ONE. THIS YEAR

BOTH DOGMAS HAVE EASTER ON THE SAME DAY. FOR US, THIS IS A PERIOD OF INTENSE RELIGIOUS AWARENESS

AND THE BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR PERSONAL RECOLLECTION, CHANGE OF HEART AND MIND, AND ENJOYMENT OF

THE INNER HAPPINESS OF THE RESURRECTION. LET US TO GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE SPECIAL CUSTOMS OF OUR

EASTER.

INTRODUCTION TO THE ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN HOLY WEEK

FOR ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS AROUND THE WORLD, THE RESURRECTION REPRESENTS THE CULMINATION OF THE

ENTIRE ECCLESIASTICAL YEAR. IT IS THE CLIMAX IN THE DRAMA OF CHRIST'S PASSION. IT IS THE REAFFIRMATION OF

LIFE, AND AS SUCH IT IS THE CAUSE FOR THE FESTIVAL OF FESTIVALS. ESPECIALLY FOR THE GREEKS AND CYPRUS IN

PARTICULAR (THE ONLY SEPARATED COUNTRY OF EUROPE, DUE TO THE TURKISH ARMY INNOVATION) THE EASTER

HAS THE MEANING OF BEING FREE BY THE EMPIRES WHICH RULED OUR AREAS FOR CENTURIES.

THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, CALLED GREAT AND HOLY, THE PASSION OF CHRIST IS RECALLED. THE FAITHFUL

PARTICIPATE IN THE SERVICES, AND THROUGH THE INTENSITY OF THE ENTIRE LITURGICAL AND CEREMONIAL ACTIVITY,

THEY TRULY RELIVE PASSION.

THIS IS A PERIOD OF POWERFUL EMOTIONS. FROM THE VICTORIOUS ENTRANCE IN JERUSALEM, TO THE MOMENTS OVERFLOWING WITH HOPE,

PRIOR TO CHRIST'S ARREST, TO THE PAINFUL TIME OF HIS AGONY AND CRUCIFIXION, TO THE SOLEMNITY OF THE GRAVE, AND FINALLY TO

THE ECSTASY OF HIS RESURRECTION, THE FAITHFUL FOLLOW HIS STEPS, DAY BY DAY, MINUTE BY MINUTE, FEELING THE PAIN , THE ANGER

AND THE CATHARSIS, THE CLEANSING, THE SERENITY AND PEACE.

KALI ANASTASI AND KALO PASHA THESE ARE THE WISHES WE USE THIS PERIOD.(GOOD RESURRECTION AND HAPPY EASTER)

THIS YEAR OUR EASTER IS ON THE 19TH OF APRIL.

Bulgaria is situated in south-eastern Europe. It occupies the central part of Balkan peninsula on both sides of the Balkan Range (the Balkans), from which the peninsula has taken its name. The grater part of the northern border with Romaniapasses along the Danube, and the eastern border is the Black Sea. The land borders with Yugoslavia and Macedonia to the west, with Turkey to the south-east, and with Greece to the south. Click on map to find placesin radius: km (max 50km)

Bulgaria's natural landscape is full of surprises - it has endless, sandy beaches along the Black sea, wild mountain ranges and lush green hills, fertile plains, magnificent gorges, rivers, health spas and natural springs....It is famous for long balmy summers, dreamy scented rose fields, richly coloured orchards and sun-drenched vineyards...

3 MarchOn March 3, 1878, the Peace Treaty of San Stefano (a tiny town near Istanbul) between Russia and the Ottoman Empire was signed which brought Bulgaria back to the political map.

The first time of marking March 3 occurred in 1880, in honor of Enthronement of Russian Emperor Alexander the Second. Since 1888 March 3 has become Bulgaria's Day of Liberation and it was not pronounced a National Holiday until 1978.

Since 1990 the date March 3 is included in the list of Bulgaria's official holidays, according to a parliamentary decree.

The Peace Treaty of San Stefano marks the revival of the Bulgarian State, submerged under Ottoman rule since the end of 14th century. However, the actual live of independent Bulgaria started after the Berlin Congress, which took place a couple of months later in 1878.

HISTORY

Troyan is a 140 year old town but the traces of the settlement run far back in history. The most ancient people thatinhabited the Northern flanks of the Central Balkan and the Fore-Balkan region lived in the caves of the Vasilyovska Mountain.

Archaeological excavations prove that the region has already been populated at the end of late Paleolithic age (40 000 - 10 000 B.C.).

In 15 B.C. the territory of present Northern Bulgaria enters the boundaries of the Roman province Miziya. From the name of the old Roman road Via Trayana that crosses the mountain, the name TROYAN has come - the present TOWN OF MASTERS IN THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN.

During the first half of XIX century crafts flourish -homespun tailoring, forge crafts, wood turnery, fur-dressing and jewelry crafts and most of all pottery-making which establishes itself as a leading, still vital pottery school.

The Mystery of the Bulgarian Letters

The Cyrillic alphabet was based on the Greek uncial script, augmented by ligatures and consonants from the older Glagolitic alphabet for sounds not found in Greek. It along with Glagolitic was formalized by the two brothers Saints Cyril and Methodius, who brought Christianity to the southern Slavs, or their disciples. Paul Cubberly posits that while Cyrilmay have codified and expanded Glagolitic, it was his students, perhaps at the Preslav Literary School in Bulgaria, that developed Cyrillic from Greek in the 890s as a more suitable script for church books

Greek Nature

A beautiful and strange countrylike the one that happened to be mine, I've never seen

He throws the net to catch fish. he catches birds,he sets a boat on the ground, a garden in the water,

he cries, kisses the dirt, migrates, ends up by himself, becomes a man

A beautiful and strange countrylike the one that happened to be mine, I've never seen

He tries to grab a stone, he throws it awayhe tries to poke in it, he makes miracles

he takes a little boat, he reaches the oceanshe rises in rebellion, he asks for tyrants

On Christmas Eve, children gofrom house to house and singcarols to the drum beatings andtinkling triangles. In the past, they received treats such asdried figs, almonds, walnuts, sweets or small gifts. Nowadays, they’re mostly offered money.

Honey cookies (melomakarona) andsugar cookies (kourabiedes) are traditional Greek sweets prepared throughout the Christmas and New Year holidays period.

Instead of a tree, people in Greece may as well decorate a boat, while a pomegranate hanging on the door is a symbol of fertility and good luck.

December brings in mind… …Christmas!
