Ethylene and carbon monoxide, along with a palladium (ıı) catalyst will produce a polyketone.

Palladium (ıı) is rare, and has to be mined.

In Canada, it is mined in Sudbury, Ontario.

Ethylene and carbon monoxide are extremely cheap. The chemistry involved in the reaction is very simple.

It is a crystalline structure, causing it to be very durable.

Carbonyls allow polyketones to be very strong crystals.

Because there is a strong attraction between the molecules, there is a high melting point.

Because of the tight bonds between the molecules and crystalline structures, polyketones are very brittle.

When a methyl group is added onto the ethyl, it causes the structure to not bond together so tightly.

When the methyl group, or propylene, is added to the polyketone the melting point drops.

Products made from polyketones, such as car parts and other thermoplastics are recyclable.
