Estar (los usos)

Use the verb estar to talk about how people are feeling or where people/things are located. Note the following examples:

¿Cómo estás?

Estoy bien.

La profesora Díaz está en la oficina.

Los libros están en la biblioteca.

Estar (las conjugaciones)

¿Dónde están?Answer the questions to say where the people are.

¿Dónde está Miguel?

Está en el cine.

¿Dónde estás?

Estoy en la biblioteca.

¿Dónde están Marta y Sara?

Están en el parque.

Estamos en la clase de español.

¿Dónde está mi amigo?

Está en el museo.

¿Dónde están Uds.?

Ir (los usos)

Use the verb ir to talk about where people are going. Note the following examples:

¿Adónde vas hoy?

Sara va a la clase de español.

¡Vamos a la playa!

Voy al supermercado. NOTE: a+el = al

Va a la tienda de música.

¿Adónde vas?

Voy al hospital.

¿Adónde van Luis y Juan?

Van a la piscina.

Vamos al banco.

¿Dónde? / ¿De dónde / ¿Adónde?

You’ve probably noticed different variations of questions that include the word dónde. Use these tips to help you choose the correct structure with dónde:

¿Dónde? = Where? Use when asking where someone/something is.

¿Dónde están los estudiantes? = Where are the students?

¿De dónde? = (From) where? Use when asking where someone is from.

¿De dónde eres? = Where are you from?

¿Adónde? = (To) where? Use when the verb indicates motion, such as ir.

¿Adónde vas hoy? = Where are you going today?

¿Dónde? / ¿De dónde / ¿Adónde?
