Mission Statement
Through our gifts of time, talents, and treasures, we serve our parish as we journey together to the Kingdom of God.
Though President Nixon signed Father’s Day into law as a national holiday in 1972, God
made it one of the 10 Commandments several millennia before that. “Honor your father
and mother that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you
(Exodus 20:12).
As summer hits full swing, we have a special time to honor our dads with a cookout,
fishing or hiking, or a sweet-and-simple nap time. Don’t forget, though: this is not just
one day designated to honor your father. It’s a lifelong commitment!
#3 – Respect Him #2 – Pray for Him #1 – Forgive Him .
God our Father, We give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old. We pray for
young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; May they find courage and
perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice. We pray for our own
Fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; May they know that the God
of compassion walks with them in their sorrow. We pray for men who are not fathers but still
mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.
We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but
who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love.
Amen

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE
Today we give thanks for our dads. In teaching us,
healing our wounds and providing for us, our dads
participate in the teaching, healing and feeding ministry
of Jesus. In their generosity, God is made present.
WORD OF LIFE!!
"Affliction produces endurance..." (Romans 5:3) Now
that's not a happy thought! Who wants to suffer
affliction? But, as much as we try to avoid physical or
emotional pain, it happens. Share with your beloved a
time that a hardship eventually made you stronger.
WE WELCOME Jack Walker Eckert,
Maddison Grace Dourado & Melania Rose Dourado
into the Catholic Community of Sacred Heart.
Jack is the son of
Kevin M. Eckert & Jennifer A. Hallinen,
Madison & Melania are twin daughters of
Francisco P. & Fantasia M. (Nellis) Dourado
May God bless them as they grow in their faith and
love of God.

placed on the prayer chain for any need, just call Rose

STUDENT FOR LIFE PROJECT~ SAVE THE DATE
Friday, August 9 St. Marys Area High School
Cafeteria 9:00 a.m. to Noon program
followed by a complimentary lunch~
Who should come? Community leaders,
youth ministers, school administrators and
staff, pastors, parents, students, pro-life
volunteers and any who are interested in
learning about the abortion issue or Students for Life
all are welcome. Please come and bring others with you.
Help us develop this project and network with others.
Why students for Life groups? Students need to be
educated about the human rights issue of abortion. We
need to give them the tools to debate this issue in a
reasoned and civil manner. Students for Life is a
grassroots effort to shape the narrative on abortion and
achieve tangible cultural and policy results.
U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson and
PA Representative Matt Gabler will be opening
speakers. Come support their leadership and their
willingness to address the abortion issue head-on. Hear
what is happening legislatively at both the national and
state levels. We are preparing a packet of information
and have been working on a power-point slide show
addressing these three topics: the science of abortion,
the competing philosophies of abortion and the cultural
pressures of abortion. We welcome input. The finished
power-point show, suitable for all audiences age teen
and above, will be made available upon request.
Laurey Kraus, advisor for the Elk County Catholic High
School Students for Life group, will serve as a resource
person. 814-335-0124 bjklak@windstream.net

What is the central characteristic that we
discover about God?" It’s
that he is dynamic, personal, and involved in our lives -
in short, that he is a Trinity: one divine nature, and three
divine Persons. No one understood this better than
Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity.
She grew up in France in the late eighteen
hundreds, the daughter of a successful military officer
who died of a heart attack while she was still only a girl.
She was an extremely strong-willed and temperamental
child. Her frequent fits of rage were almost
uncontrollable, and she was known as the "little devil."
This began to change after her first
Communion, when she was eleven. That afternoon she
met for the first time the prioress of the nearby
Carmelite convent. The nun explained that the girl's
name, Elizabeth, meant "house of God," and wrote her
a note that said: "Your blessed name hides a mystery,
accomplished on this great day. Child, your heart is the
House of God on earth, of the God of love."
From then on, recognizing that God had taken
up residence in her soul, she waged a holy war against
her violent temper. She didn't win overnight, but she
did win, eventually, and she also discovered her
vocation to become a Carmelite herself. Her mother
didn't like the idea, however, and made her wait until
she was twenty-one. She won friends of all ages during
these years of waiting, singing in the parish choirs,
arranging parish day-care service for families that
worked in the local tobacco factory, and also winning
several prizes for her skill at the piano.
She died only five years after entering the convent, at
the age of 26, after having suffered horribly for months
from an extremely painful disease of the kidneys. But
her realization that the Blessed Trinity dwelt within her
enabled her to suffer with patience and even with joy.
As she wrote to her mother: "The bride belongs to the
bridegroom, and mine has taken me. [Jesus] wants me
to be another humanity for him in which he can still
suffer for the glory of his Father, to help the needs of his
Church: this thought has done me so much good."
Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity had discovered
the intimate, loving presence of God that he so eagerly
wants to reveal to all of us.
