ONE IN CHRIST

At one time -

• Separated from Christ

• Alienated from

community

• Strangers to promises

• No hope

• Without God

But now -

• Brought near

• Peace

• Made into one

• New man

• Reconciled

• Access to the Father

• Fellow citizens

• Being built into

dwelling place for God

Ephesians 2:11-22 Overview

11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands—

12 remember that you were at that time A. separated from Christ,B. alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and C. strangers to the covenants of promise,D. having no hope and E. without God in the world.

Ephesians 2:11-12

Gentiles

separated from Christ – (Messiah) no corporate hopealienated – Excluded as a people from citizenshipGod chose a people (The Jews) – and Gentiles were excluded

Therefore:strangers – No direct part in God’s promiseshaving no hope – No future promises to bring hopewithout God in the world - godless without God’s special help

But God!

13 But now in Christ Jesus (Acts 4:12)

you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. (Hebrews 9:22)

• God had planned to unite all people in Christ from the beginning• God now deals with Jews and Gentiles on the same basis,

namely: faith in His Son - “The Church”

who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed (Matt 5:17-18)

so making peace,16 and might reconcile us both to God (Romans 5:10)

in one body through the cross, (Romans 3:28-30)

thereby killing the hostility. (Galatians 5:6)
