Offertory #507—Only This I Want
Merici Chapel… Relaxing days of summer are
over; busy schedules are upon us. Have you made
time — just a few minutes a week to be with Jesus in
Merici Chapel? Jesus always has time for us; He’s
never too busy. Give back in love and gratitude.
It’s time well spent.
Communion Shelter Me, O God
Penitential Act B Have mercy on us, O Lord.
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, O Lord, your mercy.
And grant us your salvation.
May almighty God have mercy on us...Amen.
Psalm 116 I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.

Join us for the Pancake Breakfast this
Sunday morning after the 7:30, 9:00, and 10:30am
Masses. Our Youth Group will serve a hearty
breakfast (at a reasonable price) in the Lower Parish Hall. All
proceeds go toward sending our parish teens to World Youth Day
2016 in Poland.
St Charles Highs Schoolers: Come to the
SPECTACULAR, TREMENDOUS, OVERWHELMING YOUTH GROUP KICK-OFF next Saturday, September 19, with 7:30pm
Mass in Church, Open Gym, and lots to eat after. One of the priestly responsibilities I particularly enjoy is
serving as a Field Education Supervisor for theology students from
St Mary Seminary. I was first asked to do this work in 1981. Over
the years, it has been my privilege to work with a number of
outstanding candidates for the priesthood.
Last Wednesday we welcomed Matthew Cortnik to
St Charles. Matt has completed two years of theology studies.
He will be with us until April of 2016. Matt will be involved in all
areas of parish life. This internship experience, in my opinion,
benefits the parish just as much as it does the intern. I have asked
three couples to serve on a Laity Formation Board to meet with
Matt monthly and offer honest feedback about the caliber of his
work here.
Our next NOT ALONE series (six weeks, Tuesday evenings,
6:30 to 8:00pm, John XXIII Room) for those who have suffered a
recent loss, starts September 15. Call Mark 440-888-2720, Mary
440-884-0977, Terri 440-884-7425, or Sophie 440-884-4279. This
is for all who have suffered the loss of a life partner. NOT ALONE
deals with the realities and adjustments needed to help life go on.
Since I became your pastor in 1987, the weekend after Labor Day has always been set aside to make the Annual Report to
the People. In addition to our income and expenses, there is an
accounting on the status of our four funds as well as a statistical
overview of the current parish population; a sacramental report is
also included. All this material is found in the four-page insert
contained in this week’s parish bulletin. I have asked the members
of the Parish Finance Council to share some important information
with you at Mass today.
Here’s a Tip of the St Charles Appreciation Hat to our
Ladies Guild for their gift of chairs recently received for use in
Merici Chapel. Since the Chapel was opened in 1998, we got by
with some stack chairs and some second-hand office furniture;
those chairs have now found new uses in the school. Our new
chairs match the Chapel woodwork and have upholstered seats and
backrests. They are actual “chapel chairs” and are equipped with
kneelers.
The new chairs arrived last week. (They were ordered in
June.) They are a distinct improvement and they certainly add to
the beauty and to the comfort of Merici Chapel.
The dedication and hard work of the Ladies Guild members are reflected in the many projects the Guild has financed
in recent years: the marble floor of our sanctuary, purchase of the
carillon, the repair and automation of our three bells, the new
sacristy cupboard, restoring and refinishing the sixty-year old
sanctuary candlesticks, the comfortable Corrigan Gym chairs, and
the purchase of our parish van. Also thanks to the Guild, within a
few weeks the bronze columns of the sanctuary baldachino will be
fully restored and polished. The list could go on-and-on.
Our Ladies Guild made all those good things happen for us!
Congratulations and God’s blessings to Elizabeth & James
Gibbons on the Baptism of their daughter, Alexis Isabella.

#16137 would like to invite the parishioners of St. Charles
Borromeo Parish to join us in celebrating our council’s
Patroness, Our Lady of Sorrows, with a Mass and a Holy
Hour. The celebration will begin this Tuesday,
September 15th with the 7:00pm Mass and the Holy Hour
will immediately follow the Mass. The Rosary of the
Sorrowful Mother will be prayed during the Holy Hour
along with some time for personal prayer and reflection.
The evening will conclude with Benediction. Any Knights
of Columbus from other Councils are also invited to attend.
Our Lady of Sorrows, Pray for Us.
FOOTBALL SWEEPSTAKES
FUNDRAISER School is back in session. The days are getting shorter and
the nights are getting colder. What does this all mean???
It is time for The State of Ohio Knights of Columbus
Football Sweepstakes Fundraiser. Each week each player
has four teams with a new set of teams each week.
No other ticket has the same teams in any given week. A
total of $1,000 in prizes are awarded weekly to the ticket
holders with the four teams that score the most - or the
least - number of points in that given week of games.
The scores from the previous week's games will be used
for teams that are not scheduled to play on any given
week. It makes no difference whether teams win or lose.
Total prizes will be $10,000. Proceeds from the ticket
sales will benefit the Knights of Columbus at Saint
Charles Borromeo. Tickets are available for a donation of
$10 each at the Parish Office or see a Knight or
Father Janoch for more information.
