Traffic fatalities are up statewide:

• 3,400 people killed in traffic crashes in Texas in 2012.

• 11% increase over last year.

• 56% occur in rural areas.

•Eagle Ford Shale – 2,723 fatal and serious injury crashes in 2012.

Fatalities up 40% since 2011.

•Permian Basin – 4,128 fatal and serious injury crashes in 2012.

• Failure to control speed.

• Driver inattention.

Half of fatal and serious injury crashes involve single vehicle. Most dangerous time of day: 4 p.m.-6 p.m.
