The Story behind the invention An invention is a two-way street. The person behind the invention is inspired to create
something meaningful and useful, and we are inspired by their dedication and their stories.
Albert Einstein He was born on 14th March 1879 in Germany. His father was a well-
known engineer and a salesman. He was born in a middle class family and
excelled beyond any body’s imagination. He is till today known as the
greatest genius mathematician and physicist who has ever lived. His early
interest in physics and mathematics can be attributed to his father’s
company that sold devices that ran on direct current.
When Albert was four, his mother discovered that he had a gift for
understanding the mechanics of things just like his father; when he played
with the compass his dying father gave him. It was Einstein’s mother who many say paved the
way for the genius; she introduced him to the world of music that helped him broaden his mind.
At the age of 11, he was discovered to be not only a Math’s prodigy but also a physics prodigy
too. Much to his mother’s disbelief, he was never good at school, the things that were taught
there were too bland for his taste. Some might hate him for doing this but at the age of 16, he
revoked his own country’s citizenship so that he could not be forced to join the army. He then
went to Switzerland and failed a school entrance exam because of poor French skills. Undeterred
by this failure, he took a year to perfect his skill and then attended Polytechnic to study the
subjects he loved so much; Math’s and Physics. After graduating he could not find any suitable
position. It was in 1902 that he got a shot at joining the Swiss Patent Office; it was there that he
conducted research and presented the public with theories that shook and broke open the laws
of Physics.
He published a lot of papers in 1905 and became revered amongst the scholars of physics, but
it was his General Theory of Relativity that planted him securely amongst the line (or some
would say the forefront) of geniuses. But his success was marred when propaganda was started
against him and he was marked as both an anti-German and a Jew. Einstein did not waste his
time worrying about any of this; he knew that in order to succeed in this world by bringing in
new concepts, he would always have to face rigorous opposition before people accepted him.
Charles Darwin He was born on 12th February 1809, at The Mount, Shrewsbury,
Shropshire, United Kingdom, was an English Naturalist and Geologist, best
known for Evolutionary Theory. He established that, all species of life have
descended over time from common ancestors, His scientific theory states
that the branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process called
natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to
the artificial selection involved in selective breeding.

A lot of Darwin’s work had been influenced greatly by his own unfortunate health conditions.
There were times when he suffered from such medical afflictions that he could do nothing but
fight them off. He used this as a means to understand the scientific world around him a little
better. Instead of thinking of being cursed, he used his failing condition as a means to understand
the world in a different light. This is probably why he was able to understand things that very
few had ever really thought about.
Darwin’s social and political views reflected his time and social position. He thought men’s
eminence over women was the outcome of sexual selection. He was strongly against slavery,
that is against “Ranking the so-called races of man as distinct species”, and against “Ill-
treatment of native people”. Darwin was able to convince most scientists, insisting that
evolution as descent with modification was correct, and he was recognized for his revolutionized
ideas and was honored in June 1909 by more than 400 officials and scientists across the world.
Finally, after all his revolutionary thoughts and theories, Darwin, who was diagnosed for
“Angina Pectoris” died due to heart failure, on 19th April 1882 at Down House. He was buried
in Westminster Abbey, close to John Herschel and Isaac Newton on Wednesday 26th April 1882
and was attended by thousands of people. Darwin’s portrait had been printed on the reverse of
£10 banknotes along with a hummingbird and HMS Beagle, issued by the Bank of England. A
life size seated statue of Darwin can be seen in the main hall of the Natural History Museum in
London.
Thomas Edison He was born on 11th February 1847 in Ohio. He grew up in Michigan
and was the last of seven children amongst his siblings.
Edison’s achievements seem fascinating when one thinks about the
problems that he had to overcome to achieve them. Edison suffered from
scarlet fever at a very young age; this fever caused multiple infections
in the ear. Due to inadequate treatment, this fever robbed him off his
abilities to hear properly. As a consequence, he was constantly bullied
at school. His mother took notice of that and began to home school him. There were a lot of
things that he had to compromise on because he could not hear properly, but through growing
up he learnt to use his knowledge to his advantage and not let his abnormality let him down.
He was interested in making things from a very small age. He taught himself how different
things worked and at the age of 16 when he was working as a telegrapher. He earned some
money and used his brilliant mind to produce a modified stock ticker which earned him $40,000.
He then moved to New Jersey and used his earning to build a lab for himself.
He has thousands of patents to his name; he invented the phonograph in 1877. The phonograph
was the invention that actually led him to the greatest amount of recognition and fame initially,
but the phonograph is not the only invention that he is remembered for. It was the invention of
the light bulb that he will be remembered for in generations to come. He also worked extensively
on dynamos, fuses, sockets, switches and insulations among other things. He died in 1931. Adapted from: https://www.inspirationdb.com/

What is a biography report?
A biography, or simply bio, is a detailed description of
a person's life. It involves more than just the basic facts
like education, work, relationships, and death; it
portrays a person's experience of these life events.
Biographies are a great way to learn about history,
music, art, science, and so much more! They are a
window into not only a life, but I time period. They
offer the chance to see the world through that person’s
life, a would be first hand account of what life was like
at that time.
How to create a biography report When writing a biography report, no matter who the person and what they have
accomplished, there are certain things you want to be sure to touch on. Here is a
list of questions and thoughts to get your child going with their report. These
details will help them organize their thoughts and ensure they have covered the
important topics in their biography report.
- Include a drawing of your character, the title of the biography, and the
author of the biography.
- Tell the date and place where your character was born and raised.
- Describe the early life of your character. Things like where their grew up,
their education, family, and jobs.
- Tell about what kind of person he or she was. What was it about your
character that helped him or her to succeed? Did your character know what
he or she wanted to become in the future? How did your character prepare
for his or her future?
- Tell about the work your character did. Tell why his or her contribution was
important, why the work was important. Did he or she invent something or
teach others? How did he or she change the world? What lasting effects did
your character have on the lives of others?
- Tell how your character has inspired you. In what ways would you like to be
him or her?

This is one of the most inspirational and motivational videos out
there.
Did you know that Stephen Hawking couldn't read properly until he

This is how Stephen Hawking Beat the odds and proved his doctors

And he has the best advice for living a happy life:
"Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet."
"Never give up work. Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is empty without it. And if
you are lucky enough to find love, remember it is there and don't throw it away."
"Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious,
and however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It
matters that you don't just give up."
"Be brave, be determined, overcome the odds. It can be done"
"While there is life, there is hope."

WRITING
Movie Review The main purpose of a movie
review is to inform the reader
about the film and its ideas.
Seems simple, right? Reporting
all events that happen and stating
one’s opinion about them is a
common mistake that many
students make. While movie
review allows writers to express their opinions about some film or documentary, there is also
the need for the unbiased and objective approach. An ideal review combines both.
The review determines whether someone will want to see the movie. Even if the professor (or
teacher) assigned a specific title and film to review, one should act like this is the perfect
opportunity to introduce the cinematography work to their lecturer. Always assume they
haven’t seen it before. As a result, it becomes easier to analyze events that happened on the
screen.
Film review should be detailed enough to provide assistance in making an honest decision i.e.
whether the reader wants to see it or if they’d like it. Why is this type of paper a common
school assignment? Lecturers want to get more insight into a student’s critical thinking skills
and the ability to report event (one or more of them) in a manner that others understand easily.
In addition, they want to assess the way you analyze plot and characters. After all, movie
reviews also involve the analysis of events that happened in a documentary or “regular” film.
Reviews test writing and vocabulary skills, adapting to different genres and events they
portray, and your capacity to sum up some major work and report it in a cohesive, logical, and
interesting manner.
While reviews entail more responsibility than initially thought, students find them fun and
with this guide, you will too.
SPEAKING
What is a timeline? A timeline is the presentation
of a chronological sequence
of events along a drawn line
that enables a viewer to
understand temporal
relationships quickly. The
term is also sometimes
extended to mean a
chronology that is tabular, year-by-year paragraphs or purely conceptual.
