Open House 2011

Rules & Expectations• Students will arrive ON TIME to class. Three “free” tardies are

permitted. Beyond that, students will earn a detention for each subsequent tardy. – On Time means in their seat with materials out when the bell rings.

• Due to being located outside of the building, students should only leave the classroom if it’s an emergency. Students will ONLY be permitted to leave the classroom during the first 5 or last 5 minutes of class, or if we are working silently. Each student will be given three “Hall passes” per quarter; once they have used 3 they will not be permitted to leave the room.

• iPods and cell phones will be confiscated if they are out during class for any reason. No Exceptions!!

Rules & Expectations continued

• Students may bring only bottled water to drink in class. • Arrive prepared for class each day. This includes supplies

and homework.

• Students are expected to use my teacher webpage to stay updated on all work, especially when absent. I make every effort to update this page daily with homework and needed handouts.

• Be respectful of everyone and everything!

Consequences

• Verbal Warning• Staying after class to talk with teacher• Phone call or email to parents• Detention• Office Referral

**Any of these consequences can be combined and/or given in any order.

Grading• I use a total points grading system. – Student’s grades are based on the total points they

earned divided by the total points possible per quarter.

• Homework assignments can be turned in 1 day late for ½ credit

• Major assignments (essays or projects) can be turned in up to 3 days late, but will lose a letter grade per day it is late.

Absent Work• When a student is absent, it is their responsibility to get any missed

assignments from me.

• I keep an assignment book that details what we did in class that day as well as the homework.

• Students have the number of days absent plus one to make up the work.

• If the assignment was given prior to the absence, it is due the day the student returns.

• If a student comes to school late or has an early dismissal the day a major assignment is due and miss my class, they must bring the assignment to me before the end of the day.

Communication

• I encourage students to talk to me privately if they are having any issues outside of school that would be beneficial for me to know about.

• If students see a discrepancy in their grades on home access, I ask for them to speak to me before or after class.

• Students can email me questions on homework or projects up to 9:30pm and I will try and respond that day.
