Why do we work on wood energy?
Wood fuel ‐ Is an important forest product‐ Is the most important single source of renewable energy‐ Creates jobs in rural areas with short supply chains‐ Facilitates development of small and medium size enterprises‐ Is carbon neutral, is burnt in modern stoves‐ Is cross‐sectoral
partial information available but scatteredinformal market structures
Why do we work on wood energy?
Good data are key for fact based decisions
They replicate reality to the extend possible and need to be: ‐ Compatible (JFSQ/RENQUES)‐ Recent (1‐2 years intervals)‐ Inclusive (production, consumption and trade)‐ Track new developments and technologies‐ Freely available and transparent
What do we do?
We developed the “Joint Wood Energy Enquiry” (JWEE), in close cooperation and communication with:
‐ International Energy Agency‐ Eurostat‐ Food and Agriculture Organisation
… and significant expert support from Statistics Austria

heat” (wood energy + energy efficiency) – fall/winter 2014‐ Provide guidance/experts/authors for the planned Study Paper
on Wood Energy in the ECE region (2015)‐ …
