Introduction The Embedded Laptop Solution expands the scope of iPass’ mobile broadband device offering and allows Enterprise customers another choice for activating laptops embedded with Gobi1000™ and Gobi2000™ data modules for mobile broadband service within the US and UK.
The Embedded Laptop Solution includes several components and levels of participation with laptop OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), the wireless service providers and you (the customer).
Laptop OEMs – iPass must coordinate with the laptop OEMs to determine their current and future laptop model roadmap and identify the laptop model “parent and child” designations with the various wireless service providers.
Wireless service providers – iPass must certify the laptop OEM identified “parent” laptop models with iPassConnect and Open Mobile in order to activate the embedded laptops on the wireless service provider’s network.
The Customer – iPass must have clear communications with you (the customer) to understand your laptop deployment plans and acquire your embedded Gobi data module information (i.e. MEIDs) for mobile broadband activations.
iPass is not managing or shipping any hardware for embedded laptop activations, so it is critical to keep seamless communications between us and you (the customer) during the deployment/activation processes.
Laptop OEM Partners We currently have a contractual relationship with the following laptop OEMs:
Dell Lenovo HP – pending, in contract negotiations

Laptop OEM Parent/Child Matrix The below matrix outlines the current laptop parent/child model we’ve certified to date.
Laptop Parent definition = A master laptop model (i.e. Parent) is certified with a wireless service provider to qualify for mobile broadband service activations.
Laptop Child definition = The other laptop models (i.e. Child) in a product line that fall under the Parent laptop model that also qualify for mobile broadband service activations.

Connection Managers Below are the supported iPass connection manager clients for the Gobi-1000 and Gobi-2000 embedded data modules.
iPassConnect – Gobi1000™ and Gobi2000™ device support is available on iPassConnect versions 3.51 and above.
Open Mobile – Gobi1000™ and Gobi2000™ device support is available on OMC versions 1.2 and above.
Embedded Laptop Activation Process Below is the process to activate an embedded laptop.
1. Submit an Additional Services Order Form (ASOF), providing the embedded data module MEIDs installed in the laptop you wish to activate.
2. iPass Order Mgmt reviews and approves the ASOF and sends internal request to activate the requested MEID(s).
3. iPass activates MEID(s) on the mobile broadband service provider’s network.
4. iPass communicates to the assigned iPass Territory Manager the requested MEIDs are activated and embedded data module info is visible on the MB Console under the customer’s account ID.
5. iPass Territory Manager communicates to you (the customer) your requested MEID(s) are activated and provides instructions to download the Gobi Configuration Utility to:
a. Load the embedded data module firmware
b. Perform an over-the-air (OTA) mobile broadband service activation of the embedded Gobi module embedded installed in the laptop.
Again, iPass is not managing or shipping any hardware for embedded laptop activations, so it is critical to keep seamless communications between us and you (the customer) during the deployment/activation processes.
iPass GOBI Configuration Util ity iPass created the GOBI Configuration Utility to enable you (the customer) to self-manage your embedded laptop deployments and mobile broadband service. This utility is executed in a 2-step process:
1. Loads the embedded data module firmware
Embedded Laptop Solut ion – Externa l Process Doc ©2010 iPass Inc. Vers ion 1.0, 7 .6.2010 Page 6
2. Activates mobile broadband service for the embedded data module
The iPass GOBI Configuration Utility offers advanced firmware management features for Qualcomm GOBI embedded Mobile Broadband modules. The utility allows for the selection and load of UMTS and CDMA carrier images onto the module’s NVRAM as provided by Qualcomm packages installed on the Computer by a variety of laptop and chipset manufacturers. Both the module’s drivers and carrier firmware packages must be installed for the GOBI Configuration Utility to operate.
In addition to detecting and loading installed GOBI carrier firmware images, the GOBI Configuration Utility offers Service Activation and PRL Update controls for CDMA networks in a single-step.
The GOBI Configuration Utility is installed independently from other iPass products. However, the utility must run separately from iPassConnect or Open Mobile should one be installed. If the GOBI Configuration Utility is executed while iPassConnect or Open Mobile is running, the utility notifies the user of the possible connection disruption before closing the iPass connection manager and operating on the embedded module. The user may choose to abort the connection disruption and the iPass GOBI Configuration Utility will exit.
Summary In keeping up with the advancements in the mobile broadband marketplace and the demands of our Enterprise customers, iPass expanded the scope of their mobile broadband product offerings with the Embedded Laptop Solution.
Activating embedded laptops is very similar to iPass’ existing mobile broadband device offerings with the exceptions of not managing or shipping the hardware to you (the customer) and the dependency of the GOBI Configuration Utility. Mobile broadband service networks, pricing and commitment terms remain unchanged.

Region: United Kingdom (T-Mobile – UK) Type of Card: SIM Only
EMEA embedded laptop activations do not require an MEID activation, an active SIM is inserted into the laptop for mobile broadband data service.
United Kingdom mobile broadband devices orders have the option to select “Enable Roaming.” If the order has a combination of SIM only – Roaming ON and SIM only – Roaming OFF, please submit two (2) separate ASOF order/activation requests.
− 1st ASOF order/activation request identifying the number of SIM only with Roaming ON.
− 2nd ASOF order/activation request identifying the number of SIM only with Roaming OFF.
