• What is it?

“Els Tres Tombs” is a popular festival which is celebrated around the 17th of January. It is a tribute to Sant Antoni Abat, a Christian Saint from Egypt patron of the domestic animals and the carriers.

The ritual consists of having a walk around the town three times with horses, carts and other draft animals.

Also it is typical to bless the domestic animals of the population taking them to the festival.

This ceremony takes place in many town of Catalonia.

• History Martorell has always been a very important

town for the agricola trade due to the fact that it was a junction of many ways.

Because of that, there were always crossing a lot of carts from Barcelona full of agricola products.

Consequently, there were lots of hostels near the town. Nowadays, this curious event has become a tradition and we celebrate it every year.
