Element

Line is a mark on

a surface, longer than it is wide, and in a particular direction.

Element Shape

is 2-dimensional with no form or thickness. Shapes are flat and can be grouped into two categories, geometric and organic.

Color How the human

eye perceives light reflected off an object.

It is divided into color schemes.

Element Texture

Is the tactile surface quality of a surface. Can be implied (drawing or photo), or actually on a surface.

Element Form

is a 3-dimensional object having volume and thickness.

is the degree of light and dark in a design. It is the contrast between black and white and all the tones in between.

Space refers to

illusion of depth & distance.

Principles Balance

is a feeling of visual weight . It can be symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial.

Principles Unity

A feeling of harmony within an artwork, as if things fit together in a composition because of similar elements, such as colors, shapes, and textures.

Principles Contrast

The use of opposite elements to create interest, such a bright and dark color together to make something stand out.

Principles Emphasis

The most important area (focal point) that attracts attention in a composition. Contrast often creates emphasis.

Principles Rhythm

Repetition of similar elements.
