Hi there! Specialising in design for print with a passion for using typography to effectively communicate both conceptually and objectively.
An interest in the English language and the link between the written, spoken and designed word, has led me to explore the importance and the application of typography in all my design.
I am at the end of my BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design at Leeds College of Art, just a few weeks to go, and have my eyes set on London and integrating myself completely into the design community.
If you like anything you see in here, or for that matter anything you despise, then please let me know, I am all ears.

GRAPHIC DESIGN & TYPOGRAPHY
LEO CINICOLO DISSERTATION
The ambiguous moment Brief
Produce a publication of Leo Cinocolo’s 2010 dissertation. It must be aimed at a creative / intellectual audience who are looking for new opinions to consider in the field of photography theory and critique.
Concept
The ambiguous moment is the selection of one frame from a 24fps video, i.e. film. The search for a single frame that captures an equally intricate narrative as an entire film was the drive for the gentle but easy to read layout.

The layout follows classic traits of intellectual publishing, taking into consideration footnotes, references, the bibliography and appendix.
The contrast between traditional and contemporary design, reflected through the typography and layout juxtaposes several of the key issues addressed within the dissertation not least of all, searching for the ‘ambiguous moment.’
LEEDSBIkE WEEk
Promotion and awareness Brief
Create an identity for Leeds Bike Week and produce promotional material for print and web use. Most importantly is the bike week guide, containing the all the events taking place throughout the week.
Concept
The joy of cycling is the freedom. This is the drive for the spacious layout, the alignment of elements and natural colours of ink and stock.

Every year Leeds hosts a bike week. It aims to encourage people to get on their bikes and spread the simple joy that is of course cycling. While cycling is fairly popular in Leeds, the awareness of the bike week is little known of, this is simply due to lack of promotion.
The identity and all promotional material is designed for print on a low budget.

Communication and awareness Brief
A group of Religious & Cultural Studies students from Manchester University hosted a discussion event, concerning whether systemic international aid is essentially flawed.
Produce a poster for the event that can be printed in black and white as well as 2 colour to minimise overall costs.
Concept
Clearly inform all of the information in an appropriate order, conceptually driven by a strong and memorable visual icon.
The design works both in black and white, or in this case on red stock.

CANCuN DEBATE
‘
Communication, awareness & signage Brief
To produce a range of print based promotion for a discussion event at Cambridge University.
Directed at an intellectual / environmentally aware audience who have previous knowledge of Cancun and it’s involvement with the EU, but also informative for new audiences who wish to become involved.
Concept
Can-cun?
This proposes the question whether the Cancun debates will lead to any significant steps towards a global agreement on serious environmental issues. It is un-biased and simply opens up the debate.

Brief
Produce a proposal for a new edition of the 1884 classic novella Flatland that does not necessarily engage with the conventions of ‘the book’ as we know it.
Interpret the content typographically.
Typographic experiementation Concept
Breaking physical conventions.
Like the character ‘Square’ who searches for further truth in his 2D world in the novella, the typography too pushes the physical boundaries of the format it was been placed in.

Brief
Produce a series of posters and a book of typographic quotes to be sold at Leeds University book fair.
I wrote myself a personally driven brief that would aim to clarify some of my own thoughts on design that have been informed by reading around ideologies that I find useful and interesting.
Ideology & type Concept
Using typography to inform and perhaps educate younger students and experienced designers who agree with the content I am dealing with.

In Design is my go to software for layout. Quark is not a problem for me, though I do find it frustrating as it simply is no match in terms of usability. I use Illistrator for logo design and vectoring images. Photoshop was my first love, need I say more; while After Effects is an after thought.
My course demands a high level of production as well as design development and concept building. As a result I have leared a wide range of manaul production methods. It has also encouraged me to know the workings of printers and how to not annoy them.
