1. Set up your document using whatever number of columns you think appropriate. In this example I am going to use 5 columns. Try using the set up to the right if you are stuck.

Making a vertical grid

2. Once you have your basic grid, go to master pages and set yourself up with a vertical grid. Set your margin to the same width as the margin on your normal grid. Here, I have used 4.233mm which is the equivalent of 12pt. Make sure you hit the MARGINS button.
