affectingKasesedistrictinSouthWesternUganda.Thefirstcasewasafive-year-oldchildwitharecenthistoryoftraveltotheDemocraticRepublicofCongo(DRC).Thischildwasoneof6peoplethattravelledfromtheDRCwhilestillbeingmonitoredassuspectcasesfollowingaburialofthegrandfatherwhosuccumbedtoEVD.ThechildwasillbythetimehecrossedintoUgandaandthemothertookhimformedicalcareatKagandohospitalinKasesedistrictwithsymptomsofvomitingblood,bloodydiarrhea,musclepain,headache,fatigueandabdominalpain.ThechildtestedpositiveforEbolaZairebyPCRandhelaterdiedon11thJune2019.Twoothermembersofthefamily,agrandmotherand3-year-oldbrotheralsotestedpositiveforEbolaon12June2019andthegrandmotherdiedlaterthesameday.The3-year-oldbrotheralsodiedonthe13June2019.Asoftoday,thereisnoconfirmedEVDcaseinUganda,however2suspectcasesareadmittedatBweraEbolaTreatmentUnit.Ninety-two(92)contactsarebeingfollowedup.Figure1:MovementoftheEVDcasesfromCongointoUganda

Coordination

TodaytheEVDDistrictTaskForcemeetingwaschairedbythechairmanofthesocialservicescommittee.ThemeetingdiscussedactionpointsraisedduringtheDTFmeetingheldthepreviousday.Italsoreceivedfeedbackfromthesub-committeesfollowingtheactivitiesconductedthepreviousday.Thevehicleandhumanresourcetracking logwasupdatedandsubmittedtodistrictleadershipforreview.

Surveillance

• Ugandastill records3cumulativeconfirmedcaseswhohavealldiedgivingacase fatality rateof100% (3/3).Currentlythereare2suspectcasesadmittedintheETU.All2caseshavenorelationwiththeconfirmedcases.One (1) alertwas received today and investigatedwithin 24 hours but did not fit the alert definition sowasdisqualified.Thealertwasabodabodariderattheborderwhopresentedwithfeverandheadache.HewassenthomewithtreatmentandistobemonitoredbyaVHT.

• Additionally,8newcontactswerelistedtoday,givingacumulativetotalof92contactstotheconfirmedcases.

Sixty-three(63) inKagandoand29 inBwera.Wefollowedup97%(89/92)ofcontacts inKagando,BweraandMpondweareas.

o NoneofthecontactshasdevelopedsymptomsconsistentwithEVD.• Conductedactivecasesearchat4healthfacilitiesinKagandosubdistrictandorientedhealthworkersonEVDin

allthosefacilities• Screened45peoplegatheredatthehomeofthequeenmotherwhereacrowdhadgatheredanticipatingthe

returnoftheKingofRwenzururuKingdom• Surveyed,mappedandsensitizedvendorsandleadersofMahwaandKizungumarketswhichdrawstradersfrom

Kasese,FortPortal,BundibugyoandDRContheneedtohavescreeningpointsandWASHfacilitiesLaboratory

• DeliveredGenex-pertcartridgesandequipmenttosupportonsitetestingatBwerahospital(uponapprovalbyMoHwithCDC,UVRIpartnership).

• Establishedaworkspaceformobilelaboratoryonsitetesting.AssessedstockstatustosupportlaboperationsattheETU.ReceivedresultsfortwosuspectsamplescollectedfrompatientsintheETUandbothwerenegative

Casemanagement

• Therearetwocases IntheETUtoday.Three labresults forthreesuspectcaseswerereceivedtoday;allwerenegative;onewasa repeat sample.One repeat samplewas takenwithpending results.Nonewsuspectcaseadmittedtoday.

Riskcommunicationandsocialmobilisation

• SensitizedcommunitiesofKatweKabatoroTwoncouncil,Nyakatonzi,NyakiyumbuSub-County,MukunyuSub-County,NyakatonziSub-CountyonEVDpreventionandcontrolmeasuresusingthemobilefilmvan.

• SensitizeduniformedpersonnelwithEVDmessagesinKamukumbiandKarambiUPDFdetaches.• DistributedIECmaterials,posters,leaflets,jobaidcards,tothebusinesscommunities,UPDFsoldiersand

• Conductactivecasesearch,contactlistingandfollowupinhealthfacilitiesinallHealthSub-districts• TheriskcommunicationteamtocontinueworkingwithvaccinationteaminBweraoncommunityengagement• EngagementofchurchesandcommunitymembersbyIPCandsocialmobilisationteamstointegrateEVD

messagesintheirteachings• EngagementofcommunityleadersinKilembeandMukunyuonhostilityagainstCongolesenationals• Sensitisecommunitymembers,stopmassgatherings,alleviatefearsandanxietyamongcommunitymemberson

EVD and encourage people to hand wash and stop handshaking. The community will also sensitise on theimportanceofsafeanddignifiedburialfollowingresistanceatSDBofasuspectcase.

• CommunityengagementatmarketstoenhancealertnessandenablereportingofanyEbola-relatedeventstothedistrictauthorities

• TheriskcommunicationteamwillvisitthemarketsandotherpublicplacestoconductsensitizationandengagementmeetingsonEVDalertness

CommunityawarenessoftheriskofEbolainfectionishighandthecommunityisverysuspiciousofanyonewitharecenttraveltotheDRC.SuppliesofresponseitemshaveimprovedbutmoreforecastingisneededtoavoidstockoutsofessentialitemslikePPEsandothersundries.
