event.”
On Monday 3rd June 2013, 15 graduates received
their certificate for “Peace and Interfaith

coexistence of communities as well as social
cohesion are necessary for harmony in a
pluralistic country like Mauritius.

FDI Regatta day at Grand River South East
To mark the 45th anniversary of the
independence of Mauritius, FDI students got the
opportunity to meet some people from the
surrounding villages and interact with them. This
event also served to create awareness about the
courses available at FDI.
FDI Mural Painting
The students studying Art & Design have
worked on a mural painting from 27th to
29th of May 2013 at the Moka Government
School. The aim of this activity is to inculcate
4
values to students and to the community at
large.
The paintings demonstrated respect for
elders, protection of the environment, water
saving, road safety, and sports for health.
Middlesex University first Law Ball
The objective of the event was to develop
industry and academia linkages. Students also
had a chance to do some networking with
potential employers.
Dr. Karen Pettit, Director of Middlesex University
Mauritius Branch Campus stated "This first ever
ball in Mauritius law confirms our commitment
to our students to facilitate their search for a job
when they finish their studies with us.”
The ball was held on Saturday 15th June 2013 at
Clos St Louis, Domaine les Pailles. The judge
Bernard Marie Joseph was also present.
MIPACHE - the centipede of Chebel
Mauritius Research Council started the MIPACHE
project started in June 2011 based on the
problem of the invasion of millipedes faced by
residents of Chebel.
The first aspect of the research project is based
on reducing the proliferation of millipedes while
ensuring their survival. To do this, the
researchers have applied the process of ‘green
chemistry’, wherein the use or disposal of
harmful chemicals to the environment are
replaced by specific chemical processes.
In this context, the Mauritius Research Council
(MRC) presented its findings and
recommendations during a half-day seminar
held at its premises on June 26, 2013.
Lindau Nobel Laureats Meeting- “Educate.
Inspire. Connect”
Two bright young persons have been selected to
participate in the Lindau Nobel Laureates
Meeting. Mauritius was represented by Ms.
Naziah Jaufeerally who is currently doing her
PhD in Computational Chemistry at the
5
University of Mauritius and Ms. Aazra Oomayya
Pankan is enrolled in a master's degree in
Chemical Engineering with Environmental
Engineering at the University of Nottingham
Malaysia Campus.
This meeting is a milestone on the programme of
international scientific dialogue and allows the
exchange of knowledge and ideas, helps
scientists to share their enthusiasm for science
and to establish new contacts.
The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting of Natural
Sciences is held every five years in Germany and
an important aspect of the government strategy
to promote science and technology. The forum
was held from June 30 to 5 July 2013.
