As we celebrate the birth of our
Lord, lets consider why he came
into this world as He did. Godsplans are perfect and always meetthe needs of His children. Usually, the plans have more than one pur-
pose as only God can uniquely af-fect the lives of many at a time inseveral ways with one turn of
events. If you consider Gods hand
in your own life, you have probablynoticed the multiplied affect of anoccurrence that is timed perfectly.
11111So though we often focus onChrist coming into this world to
save us from our sins and their
eternal ramifications, lets considerthe purpose of Him coming into theworld to be our example. How often
we praise Him for saving our souls,
yet continue to live day to day for-getting how to show grace to oth-ers.
11111Jesus walked humbly while
he was here, even though His lifeof perfection could have brought
shame to all he came in contact
with. His dealings with others al-ways involved teachable mo-
ments. Such moments incorporatelove and knowledge. How oftenhave we wasted teachable mo-ments because we possessed the
lack of knowledge or the lack oflove?11111Christ was the Living Word
and embodied the love and
knowledge that we need to pos-sess in order to follow His exam-ple. But He gave us His written
word, which is alive and active(Heb. 4:12), to reveal to us truths
that we need to apply to our daily
behavior. The knowledge and lovewe need to see others as Jesuswould and deal with others as Je-
sus would, is available to anyone
seeking it. Lets set-aside our usu-
al reactions to peoples short-comings this Christmas and New
Year and follow Christs example
instead. All things are possiblethrough Christ who came to make
us free, in more ways than one.

The Week at a GlanceTempting Givers
Some time ago, a beggar was seen on a street in New York asking passersby for money. He was carry-
ing a sign that said: Know the joy of giving without the slightest gift of involvement. That must have
been a tempting offer. One could give and be done with it. Nothing else required. Yet there is much wis-
dom in the old saying, The gift without the giver is bare. Involvement is a plus not a minus. What ifthe giver took time to talk with the beggar? What if the giver told the beggar about The Salvation Army
or other Christian organizations and social service agencies where more permanent help might be
found? Christmas is a good time to remember these marvelous organizations with monetary gifts. But
why not also volunteer your time, talent and friendship to aid those who are having a hard time in life?
That would be joyous giving with involvement.
[But lets go a step further and also meet the need of their soul by introducing them to the Savior.]

Deacon of the Week: Garland Mapp 434.385.6282
True HospitalityA 7-year-old boy was chosen to be the innkeeper in the Christmas program. When Joseph
and Mary approached him, looking for shelter in Bethlehem, he simply had to say there was
no room. The kindhearted boy tried to take the sting out of the situation, however. I dont have room
for you in the hotel, he said. But Id love to have you come in for milk and cookies.
Many times we are asked, Who is mydeacon?
To help you, we will list the Deacon of
the Week and his list of families in the
WLBC Bulletin ENewsletter. There will
be a complete list posted on the bulletin
board near the church office. This
complete list is alphabetical by your last
name. We hope this will help you know
who your deacon is for the year. If you
have any questions, please feel free to
contact the church office.

St. Paul believed that you and I can accomplish far
more than all we can ask or imagine (Ephesians
3:20, NRSV). We do this, not just by ourselves, but
with a gift from God. Choose the name of that gift
from the list below.
