Learning Series with Father Frank Furman The next talk will be on February 9th at 7pm in the lower church. Knowing the basis of an argument, we can begin with our first moral issue, Abortion. It is the preeminent moral issue in America that claims more lives each year than any other moral issue. We will anchor this lesson in faith, morals, and modern science to oppose those who ignore its negative impact and try to reduce it to a mere political stance.
Tower of Ivory Podcast: Listen to Fr. Frank Furman
teach parishioners at St. Mary's in Westfield about different matters concerning faith, philosophy, morals, and everything in between. anchor.fm/fr-frank-furman, or search for "Tower of Ivory" on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, and other podcast providers.

Or you can text or call one of our leaders, Julie Fregeau, at 413-351-6956 to place an order. We will use all proceeds from cookie sales for future service projects and fun field trips. Thank you for supporting our troop!
FEAST OF ST. BLAISE On Wednesday, February 3rd, the church celebrates the feast of St. Blaise. This fourth century saint was born into a rich and noble family. He was raised with the Christian faith and eventually became the bishop of Sebaste in Armenia. Known for his profound wisdom and great love for his people he was sought out by many for guidance and help. The Roman authorities became jealous of his popularity and upset by his Christian beliefs. In time he was sentenced to life in darkness. Literally he was locked in a dungeon with no windows. The Christian community still visited him to offer support and gain his wisdom. They would sneak candles into his cell so that he could burn them when his guards were sleeping. One popular story tells of how he cured a young boy who was choking on a fish bone. Hence in honor of Saint Blaise we have the ‘Blessing of the Throats’ with candles. In celebration of his feast, we will have the Blessing of Throats this weekend of January 30th and 31st. We ask through the intercession of St. Blaise that the Lord will free us from any disease of the throat and any other illness. The presider for each Mass will invoke a general blessing.
Through the intercessions of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you
from every disease of the throat and every other illness,
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

“As He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting
a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Immediately they left their nets and followed him.” ~ Matthew 4:18-20
Dear Parishioners,
On the weekend of February 6th and 7th, we will be taking up a special collection for the Seminarian-Vocation
Fund. This collection will be for the education and care of our future seminarians. These men leave everything to follow
Christ, like the apostles, dedicating their lives to the Church. Please keep each of them in your prayers.
Your prayers and financial support help to make possible the education and training these seminarians need to
be men of deep prayer, dedicated shepherds of parishes, tireless ministers of the sacraments, and strong teachers of our
Catholic faith. Contributions towards our Seminarian-Vocation Fund will make a significant impact on each
seminarian. Funds collected through this special collection help to defray the cost of expenses for formation and
seminary education such as tuition and fees, room and board, and health insurance for each seminarian. The cost for our
young men studying at a seminary is approximately $90 per day; this amounts to $2,700 per month per seminarian. This
fund is also used when needs arise for them such as medical bills and car repairs so they can travel to their pastoral
assignments. This fund is used solely for seminarians of the Diocese of Springfield. I ask you, humbly, to consider
making a donation – an investment in the future of our diocese.
On behalf of our current and our future seminarians, I thank you for your generosity. May God continue to
bless you abundantly. Please be assured of my daily prayers and I ask for yours in return.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
+Most Reverend William D. Byrne
Bishop of Springfield
pm
espiritualmente a mi corazón.
Amen.
(San Alfonso María de Ligorio)
