DOMPERIDONE - A VERY GOOD ANTIEMETIC WITHOUT SIDE EFFECTS

Domperidone 4 Dig IV gave significant protection against postoperative nausea and vomiting in 58 patients in an open study and a further 38 in a double-blind study. The former study showed 69 % of patients to be protected for the 4 hours of observation, with only l6 % requiring a second injection. The latter study showed 76 % of patients to be free of vomiting during the 4 hours in the domperidone group compared with 38% in the placebo group and only 29% needed a second injection (placebo 66 %). The drug seemed to be a very effective antiemetic, devoid of side effects. A 2mg dose was less effective. Stockman, A. et a!.: Anaesthetist 27: 540 (Nov 1978)
