O n October 31, 2020, a beatification Mass will be
held for Father Michael J. McGivney in the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, Conn. At that time, the founder of the Knights of Columbus will be declared “Blessed” and his feast day will be set. Father McGivney will be the first U.S.-born priest to be beatified who spent his entire priestly ministry in a parish. Father McGivney started the Knights of Columbus in 1882 with a mission of charity that has continued to this day. The Knights of Columbus are well known for their support of major charities such as Coats for Kids, Special Olympics, and disaster relief (such as relief for victims of the recent hurricanes), but they also support individuals and groups with low profile yet important needs. In
2018 the Knights donated $185.7 million to charity and 76.7 million hours of hands-on service. All fees and expenses associated with Knights of Columbus Charities, such as operating and administration costs, are covered by the Knights of Columbus. Whatever cause a donor contributes to — providing a child the gift of warmth, advocating for a culture of life, giving persecuted religious minorities food and medical care or helping rebuild after natural disasters — every penny donated goes directly to the chosen charity. Please join your Knights of Columbus parish members in celebrating this important milestone on the possible elevation of Father Michael McGivney to sainthood.

STEWARDSHIP
“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22:37
Do you put other “gods” before God? Is your love of money, power, status, comfort or some personal possession greater than your love for God? Do you really recognize that everything you have and that everything you are is a gift from God? The good news – it’s not too late to put God first in all things in your life.
