SATURDAY SESSION FOUR

MENTORING MILLENNIALS

More than perfection

What behaviours can we encourage and model?

God is not angry at us. He is not mean. He is spacious. He is good.

Relationship is at the core of who God is – opportunities for friendship.

Safe sharing.Demonstration of faith sharing and prompting of

the Holy Spirit in everyday life.

What we have learned:

1. How badly the need it.

They are orphans.

They can’t talk with their parents.

They were never taught.

They are immature.

They are afraid to ask for help.

2. You cannot take them where you have not gone.

destiny

maturity

intimacy

identity

3. How difficult it is to change group culture.

They tend to do things the way they’ve always been done – with a “stage”

-- mechanically -- reserved -- unaware of the fringes -- happy to “attend” -- happy with my age group

4. The difference it makes to insist on “inclusion”

5. The difference that our vulnerability makes

6. The importance of US being teachable.

7. The importance of the whole congregation

helping.

8. How easy it is for them to drop off our radar.

9. The importance of self-awareness

10. How easy it is to get caught up in the whirlwind

11. The importance of going where God is working

12. The importance of knowing one another

13. How much work it is to get them to connect

intergenerationally, even though it’s what they want !

The new normalis ORGANIC and RELATIONAL

1 Thessalonians 2:8

“We loved you so very much that we were delighted to share with you not only the Gospel of God but our very lives as well,

because you were so dear to us.”

Sharing our very lives means and growing together means:

understanding church as family where everyone is “blood”!being visible and vulnerable in all seasons ...including our dark

nights.offering the young our ministry of presence.

living the extravagant life of the kingdom, not just focusing on sin management!

intentionally pursuing our own spiritual growth - completely open to the hardest questions.

being here indefinitely. slowing down.

BOTTOM LINE!

We have to remain in the extravagance of Jesus ourselves.

IMAGINEWHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SO FAR ABOUT
