ELLA CALIFORNIA LAW SCHOOL VISITS &

J. REUBEN CLARK LAW SOCIETY CONFERENCE 2012

ELLA FUNDING FOR CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE AND LAW SCHOOL VISITS

• In Fall 2011, a grant was written to ELLA, the Engaged Learning in the Liberal Arts committee, a standing committee in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, asking for ELLA to fund the travel of two UVU Christine M. Durham Prelaw Club board members to Northern California law schools and to attend the 9th Annual J. Reuben Clark Law Society Conference, to be held at Stanford University in February, 2012.

• The grant was funded and Jamey Mora, President, and Dillon Erickson, Vice President, drove to California, stopping at law schools on their way to the Bay Area for the conference to which over 400 attorneys and 200 law students attend annually.

ELLA TRIP

• Students met with admissions deans, students, and took law school tours

• The law schools that were visited: – McGeorge Law School, University of Pacific– University of California, Davis– University of California, Berkeley– University of California, Hastings– Golden Gate University– University of San Francisco– Santa Clara University– Stanford University

ELLA TRIP

• A total of eight schools were visited, quickly illustrating to our student-leaders that every school has a unique culture and personality.

• In addition to the law school visits, the student-leaders attended the very popular JRCLS Conference being held at Stanford University. Excellent speakers provided insight on legal issues regarding many issues, including issues that affect religious people all over the country

• Our student-leaders were able to interact with attorneys from all over the country, students in law schools from all over the country, and increase their understanding of law schools, legal education, and the profession of law
