While conventionalsurround programming is fully campatible withDolby Surround Pro Logic II decoders, soundtracks will be able to be encodedspecifically to take full advantage of Pro Logic IIplayback, including separate left and rightsurround channels. (Such material alsocompatible with conventional Pro Logicdecoders).DTS: Digital Theatre Systems. This is asurround sound system, but it is different fromDolby Digital. The formats were developed bydifferent companies.Multichannel: DVD is specified to have eachsound track constitute one sound field.Multichannel refers to a structure of soundtracks having three or more channels.Super Audio CD (SACD): This audioformat is based upon the current CDstandards but includes a greater amount ofinformation that provides higher quality sound. There are three types of discs: single layer, double layer and hybrid discs. The hybrid disccontains both standard audio CD and SuperAudio CD information.Surround: A system for creating realisticthree-dimensional sound fields full of realismby arranging multiple speakers around thelistener.VSS: Virtual Surround Sound - the ProLogicMPEG or Dolby Digital surround channel isprocessed by a ‘virtualiser’ DSP to addsurround effect from just the two frontspeakers.
