Ulcers

• A hole in your digestive tract• Happen in stomach or small

intestine (duodenum)• Mucous lining eaten away

and hole forms• Acidic environment = pain• Symptoms include:

abdominal pain, blood in stool or vomit

Diabetes

• Pancreas stops creating the hormone that keeps blood sugar in normal range (insulin)

• High blood sugar: dehydration, brain damage, tissue damage in eyes, feet

• Low blood sugar: fatigue, dizziness, loss of consciousness, coma

• Can be regulated by insulin shots and diet• 13% of adults – 40% don’t know

Crohn’s Disease

• Inflammatory bowel disease• Diarrhea, fever, weight loss • Immune system attacks your own organs• No cure, only remission

Indigestion

• “Heartburn”• Acid reflux / acid coming up from your

stomach into the esophagus• Can be caused by: diet, laying down too soon

after eating certain things, certain medical conditions (like ulcers)

• Can be treated by medication (ex: pepto bismol) or change in diet

Anorexia/ Bulemia (Eating Disorders)

• Anorexia – refusal to maintain healthy weight• Bulimia – binging and then compensating • Purging can ruin esophagus, mouth, gag reflex• Low weight/fluctuation can stunt growth, stop

periods (f), ruin skin, shut down liver, kidney, heart, cause weakness, death

• 90% are female and 15-19• Think they’re fat no matter what
