Towards an Integrated Roadmap
December 2014
Four key Energy System challenges
• Active consumer
• Energy efficiency
• System optimisation
• Secure, cost-effective, clean and competitive supply
Cross-cutting aspects: financing, education, socio-economics
Regional approaches
• Policy & regulatory framework• Identification, model, analysis, map
efficiency & emissions• Capacity building & knowledge
sharing• Operations, control and monitoring
of infrastructure• Planning and design of the energy
system• Integration of data and information
networks• Governance: CBA, socio-economic &
environmental methods and tools
Regional coordination of energy policies is essential is areas such as the Baltic
• Integration of energy infrastructure and market
• Increase intermittent RES
• Security of supply
JRC established the "Baltic Energy Security Research Platform” (18 Dec 2013)
An example of regional approach
• PCIs are essential for reaching the objectives of the energy policy• Need to integrate the proposal and review done by the regional groups• 2nd call: ≤ 500 proposals• JRC integrates the data, building the basis for a multi-criteria analysis
JRC + national experts will evaluate the projects with this methodology in view of their contribution to energy policy objectives
