What is a GAA Nursery ?

A School or place equipped to look after young people(4-7) to promote movement skills (Fundamentals)

Task: Case study

Children –.

Coach: Child Ratio –

Equipment – the amount and type of equipment that is used. Content – the type of activities that the children are doing. Organisation & Structure –If there are people responsible for certain jobs other than coaching such as time keeping, registering children etc. format adopted.

Time Keeping – all issues related to time keeping (start time, finishing time, amount of time at each activity etc.)

Factors that contribute to a successful Nursery

• Understanding how the children grow and develop

– Physically– Intellectually– Socially– Emotionally

This helps parents and coaches to know what to expect from the children.

Adapt activity to suit the needs of young!

• Adopting a child-centred approach to all junior club activities

• Imparting new knowledge and skills at the right pace and at the appropriate time

• Ensuring enjoyable and safe play

• Reducing playing area and time.

• Programming to include the needs of all young people including those with disabilities

• Promoting a broad range of motor skills at a young age
