8. Make a series of 3 different thumbnails on one page that each use the same basic composition, but pack it into 3 different formats: short wide rectangle, tall thin rectangle, square.

9. Develop 3 different logos for a single product. Logos can have just images, just letters, or an integration of both. The most effective logos say the most with the least visual information to allow instant consumer impact. (Milton Glaser)

10. Communicate your personal or family imagery with a series or group of symbols.

(Think original, expressive symbols: no hearts, peace signs, smiley faces, etc.)

11. Create a design for a T-shirt advertising a: band, movie, political figure, or artist.

• The design should consider the power of typeface as well as a strong, graphic image. Image and text should be well-integrated so that one cannot stand without the other.

12. Use letterforms only, and not adding up to a readable word, to express a particular emotion.

Variables: size, scale, color, outlining, overlapping, transparent/opaque, variety of typefaces, line quality on edges of text.
