On October 28th we sent in a total of 1,985 BOX TOPS for a total of $198.50. GOOD JOB! Please be sure to check all your household items since you can find “Box Tops” on everything from tissues to cereal to snacks to paper towels. You can now find them on Avery school supplies. We get ten cents cash for every “Box Top” and they add up quickly! Be sure to ask neighbors, grand-parents, friends and church members to save them for you! Keep saving so
we can earn some more money this spring!!
Remember for “Soup Labels” we just need the bar code. I am noticing we
are still getting some label fronts and we have to throw them away as the bar code is not included. We would like to see more labels, so ask everyone you can think of to save them! We will be sending off our soup labels the first
of the year.
Please feel free to send all empty inkjet cartridges and we will check to see if we can redeem them for cash. Tell everyone, including people at your work. We
can collect a lot of these if companies will save them for us!

Teachers' Conference
The teachers recently went to Sturbridge, Massa-
chusetts to this year's teachers' conference. It
was a great experience all the way around. The
main speakers were inspirational, reminding us
why we are teachers and why children's educa-
tion is important. The individual seminars which
the teachers attended offered great teaching tips,
techniques, and ideas which we all hope to bring
back to our classrooms to put into use. Also, the
musical entertainment was absolutely amazing.
The Annie Moses Band are a family of extremely
talented stringed instrument musicians who
blended music with testimony and lyrics to move
an entire room of educators. We also enjoyed
some time of wonderful fellowship with one an-
other. The CCA staff are very grateful for the op-
portunity to have attended the conference. We
came back truly enriched and blessed by our time
there. - Melissa Sweeney

Autumn is a busy time of year here at Cortland Christian Academy. It seems like there is much to accom-
plish and many projects to complete. The student body would like to thank all the families that participated
in “Operation Christmas Child” again this year. Many items were brought in along with money to help ship
the necessary packages. C.C.A. families have been more than generous and we are sure that God will richly
bless you for your sacrificial giving.
Another note of praise and thanksgiving is from the Class of 2010. Many were asked to bake pies, cookies,
cakes, breads, etc. for the Annual Senior Bake Sale which was set up in the Pyramid Mall in Ithaca. Seniors
and their parents worked hard on Friday and Saturday, November 20 & 21 to man the tables and set up bake
goods. We would especially like to thank Linda Hatch for her hard work in all aspects of the process that
made the sale a success. Our school has had a good testimony at the mall in previous years and was pleased
that the mall in Ithaca was gracious enough to let us set up again. Many schools have been denied these
privileges but when we say who we are, the comment is “ Cortland Christian Academy, yes by all means.”
We are grateful for the way in which students and parents have represented the school and we are thankful
for all who participated to make this sale a success.

very large sum, but it does help.
Keep up the good work and share
these money saving ideas with all
your friends.

Be sure to tell your children that
when they purchase these items from
the lunch room or if they bring them
in a lunch from home that they are
not to throw away the bag.
There will be a box in the cafeteria
where children may place these
items. You may also send extra
empty bags from home. Every little
bit helps.

The Grouch What good did it do to be
grouchy today? Did you cover
more ground than you usually
do, because of the grouch carried
around with you? If not, what’s
the use of being so cross when in
the end…it creates such a loss?
If it doesn’t assist you, it isn’t
worthwhile. Your work may be
hard, but just do it—and smile.

On Wednesday, November 18th, the fourth and fifth grade classes participated in our Annual Mancala Tour-
nament. Mancala is a simple but strategic game that originated in Africa. It is played on the ground with
small pebbles.
We enjoyed our tournament play in the comfort of our classroom using wooden bins and gemstones. Many
practice sessions were conducted throughout September until tournament day. Fifth graders led the way hav-
ing a year of experience under their belts; however, fourth graders were not to be outdone. They made a terri-
fic show of effort and in one case of success.
Finishing in first place was Keresten Sweeney with nine wins. Breaking a tie was necessary to determine
second and third places. Finishing second with eight wins was Micah Ploss, while Michael Anecelle brought
up third place with seven wins.
In addition, fourth and fifth graders have been learning to count change. Thanks to Tops Market for the loan
of a real till that we filled with real money as we counted our way to mathematical success. Fifth graders re-
membered the lesson learned last year, and fourth graders were very quick to find success with this task as
well. Change, anyone?
Finally, to cap our unit on rocks we ate “rocks.” The metamorphic marble was most favored; however, igne-
ous, sedimentary, metamorphic… whoever knew science could be so tasty?
