GREENWICH ROTARY CLUB
2010CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
DINNER
HONORING
DAVID OGILVYBELLE HAVEN CLUB
GREENWICH, CONNECTICUT
David Ogilvy exemplifies the Rotary Club mottoof "Service Above Self" in his long list of volun-teer efforts. He is on the board of the Boys &Girls Club of Greenwich where he, along withSusan Bevan (2009 Rotary Citizen of the Year)was co-chair of the $16 million fund raising tototally renovate and add onto the Boys & GirlsClub. As a former president of the GreenwichLand Trust, he is now an honorary member ofthe Board of Directors and maintains a veryactive role in soliciting property for conserva-tion. David initiated and was the Chairman ofthe "100 Days to Save Treetops", the successfulpublic/private fundraising effort to raise $11.5million to save the Treetops Estate from a 40house development. This has protected perma-nently 110 acres of environmentally fragileproperty on the Mianus River, adjoining MianusRiver Park. He was on the Selectman's AdvisoryCommittee and was instrumental in the acqui-sition of the Pomerance-Tuchman property inCos Cob next to the Montgomery Pinetum, working to expand the greenway from theMianus River Gorge to Long Island Sound andhe was also involved in the Town's acquisitionof the Laddins Rock Preserve in Old Greenwich, again an important part of a greenway leadingto Binney Park. David's wife Anne is veryinvolved in the Audubon and the preservationof Long Island Sound, and the Historic Society, passions he very much shares with her.
David has had involvement in many not-for-profit organizations over the years including
being on the Board of Hotline (now FriendlyConnections at Family Centers), the YMCA, theMead Institute and the Mead School where hechaired the successful fund raising to acquiretheir new campus. He is on the Advisory Boardof the Teen Center, the Greenwich PointConservancy, the Greenwich Tree Conservancyand the Advisory Council of The GreenwichHistorical Society, where he has been involvedin the Antiquarius House Tour for more than 18years and in the placquing of historic houses inthe effort to preserve the history of Greenwich. He has been committed to the GreenwichCountry Day School, the United Way,Greenwich Hospital and is actively involved inthe MMRF, the Multiple Myeloma ResearchFoundation. David has received awards for con-servation efforts and was recently honored asone of only two recipients ever to receive theBoys & Girls Club National Medallion award.
Having enjoyed raising three boys who are nowgrown, David and his delightful wife Anne arebusy raising three wonderful daughters ages15, 13 and 5 and love that all children will growup and see what a wonderful effect preservationand conservation will have had on this town.Their personal historic contribution continueswith the preservations of their 1888 SecondEmpire Victorian office on Arch Street, as wellas their preservation of the 1703 Saltbox homein Old Greenwich from David's family to ensuretheir future survival as landmarks inGreenwich.
