As a Child…

Dave Pelzer and His Closest Friends

Dave Pelzer

Abuse…. Abuse…. And Abuse….

Abused…

Abused…

And Abused Again…

He was put under protective custody and later into a foster home…

Unlike Normal Kids…

He didn’t get to play around like other kids his age. He worked and saved all he could. He would work at fast food restaurants and etc.

He hanged out alone and had little to no friends.

He slurred his words whenever he was nervous.

He enlisted in the air force as soon as he could…

He would have nightmares of his mother trying to kill him…

He still hanged out alone…

He had very low self esteem...

Slurred his words when he was nervous…

Terrified of Women…

He wanted to become a fireman. He wanted to prove that he could make it.

However, due to military mishandling of his application, his application was rejected.

He became a cook.

Later, he got in and became a air man, doing midair refueling…

Owned his own motorcycle and home…

Got Patsy pregnant with a son. Got Married to Patsy…

Marriage ended up not working out…

They separated then divorced…

He did many talks. He wrote books. He volunteered at many organizations.

He wanted to do what he could to make sure that no one would be abused like he was…

He ended up getting remarried to Marsha…

He owned a place on the Russian River…

During this time…He experienced many ethical and moral issues…

His father who used to be a noble fire man was now a homeless alcoholic.

Dave loved his father and believed that his father loved him, too.

Because of this, he was not able to not work his butt off. His dream was to own a cabin on the Russian River. He wanted to live with his dad and become like father and son. How could he be having fun or buying new clothes when his dad was somewhere out in the shivering cold hungry.

He was quick to self blame, afraid of having no money, and had a hard time trusting others…

This is probably what led to the separation and eventual divorce of him and Patsy…

He disliked confrontations…

He was taken advantaged of by the firm, more specifically Jerry…

Jerry had sent checks to himself…

Both of the books that he had written were not published. They were not copyrighted…

He had known something was not right but he didn’t want to face confrontations…

His father was hospitalized and had cancer. It was in the advanced state and he was going to die for sure.

He could no longer talk and partly because of medication, he could not always recognize people.

He took care of his father and made it as happy as possible for his father.

His mother had not had the heart to visit him at all. He thought this was very heartless. He tried to convince his mother to visit him. She would not listen.

He was very angry when he found out his mother took over the burial services. His father was cremated and had his eulogy in like two sentences. Fireman don’t want to be cremated. They are afraid of fire.

He tried so hard to dissipate the animosity between him and his mother.

He did not blame her but rather accepted that something in her past probably made her the way she was. No one could be so terrible to their own child.

His mother never apologized. The closest thing was her admitting that it was an accident when she had thrown the knife at him.

He was at the very end able to forgive his mother, although it was after her death.
