7/29/2019 Cowboys 2013 Off Season Preview
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/cowboys-2013-off-season-preview 1/1
Tony Romo, QB: Only two NFL quarterbacks posted 90+ ratings while being sacked
30+ times: Romo and Aaron Rodgers. Cowboys will look to get Romo signed to a 3-4year deal to reduce his salary cap number from 16.8M.
Brandon Carr, CB: Solid Cowboys debut season, recording 3 interceptions and playing
solid corner. Cap figure of 16.3M can be reduced to 5.5M for 2013 season.
Miles Austin, WR: Austin’s cap figure of 8.3M can be reduced to 2.9M with a bonus for
2013. A ‘disappointing’ 2012 season saw Austin catch 66 passes for 943 yards and 6
touchdowns.

Dallas
2013 Off-Season
Outlook
Off. Rank: 6th
Def. Rank: 19th
2012 Record: 8-8 Cap Space: 18 million over
After taking over a 1-7 football team during
the 2010 season, Cowboys head coach JasonGarret finds patience running increasingly
thin in Dallas. After posting a 5-3 mark to
end 2010 as the interim head coach, Garrett
was awarded the top position in hopes that
he could guide a team that had to rebuild its
secondary and offensive line on the fly.
Back-to-back 8-8 seasons that saw the team
lose the final game of the season to miss the
playoffs has Jerry Jones making changes.
With the departure of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, the team is moving from the 3-4
to the 4-3 defense under Monte Kiffin.
While the defense has been the center of
attention in recent drafts, the Cowboys man-
aged only 7 interceptions during the 2012
season. That effort was good enough for the
31st ranking in the league. In total, the 19thranked team in total defense forced only 16
turnovers on the season.
While quarterback Tony Romo draws his fair
share of criticism, the play of the offensive
line is an area that the Cowboys must address
moving forward. The team set a franchise
record for the fewest amount of rushing yards
over a 16 game season in 2012. Couple that
with seeing their quarterback sacked 36 times
on the season, the draft will have to be thearea where the team must find a starter or
two.
While their cap situation isn’t great, restruc-
turing a few deals will give them a chance to
resign key free agent Anthony Spencer.
Key Free Agents
Anthony Spencer, LB -
a year after signing
the franchise tag and
posting 11 sacks, the
29 year old will look
to cash in as either a
3-4 LB or a 4-3 DE.
Victor Butler, LB - the
26 year old posted 3sacks once again in
limited opportunities.
Graded out as high
as DeMarcus Ware
Mike Jenkins, CB - was
a Pro Bowl CB in
2009 and best Dallas
CB in 2011. Played in
the slot in 2012 after
off-season shoulder
surgery. Looking for 5-7M a year in new
deal.
Felix Jones, RB - often
injured but explosive
change-of-pace back
when healthy.
Kenyon Coleman, DE -
solid 3-4 run de-
fender. Will come
cheap as age is aconcern.
Kevin Ogletree, WR -
after a great opening
night to the 2012 sea-
son, Ogletree lost his
3rd receiver job to
2nd year receiver
Dwayne Harris.
