Definitions
Components applied outside. The need of protection related is usually more important as they are more exposed to pest (fungi, mold, insects). Other areas (outside construction) like boats e.g. are not included.
Thick Film Building System (Thick Film Stains)
The thick film dedicated for outdoor material including top coat, finish and glaze. - A top coat is a final layer used on the wood to enhance the protection already in place or to change the appearance. - A finish is only different from a topcoat in the way, that the same product is applied few times on the
same surface.
Thin Film Systems (Oils/Waxes)
Thick Film Systems (Varnishes)
In this report, “wood preservation” refers to every wood component used in the construction field. We consider both industrial and domestic use. Other applications outside of construction, e.g. boats are out of the scope of this analysis.

Thin Film Building System (Thin Film Stains)
The thin film for inside materials are separated in 2 products: the oil and the wax. - The wax is a base of some wood preservation products and provide a durable and weather resistant surface.
The thick film for inside materials means the use of varnish. - The varnish is a good preservative enhancing the natural color of the wood.
The thin film dedicated for outdoor material including pre grey, oil and glazes. - The oil is a low film building, leaving the wood color and age (discolor process) visible. - The glazes define a type of thin medium applicable over painted or stained wood.
The pre grey is an additional layer made to apply an old grey effect on the wood.

Methodology
