High Sensitivity ER ProbeFOR RAPID CORROSION RESPONSE

AND OPTIMISATION OF INHIBITOR

Features and AdvantagesThe High Sensitivity ER (HS-ER) probecombines extreme sensitivity and highaccuracy.

The HS-ER probe is ideal forapplications requiring fast response, such as:

• Establishing uninhibited baselinecorrosion rate within hours.

• Warning of inhibition failure inflowlines.

• Warning of sudden (e.g. processrelated) corrosivity increases inpipelines with low corrosivity fluids.

Inhibitor Testing• Better sensitivity to process changes

and significantly reduced responsetime compared to traditional ERprobes.

• Correlation between changes incorrosion rates and changed processconditions can be established morereliably. The best corrective actions to reducecorrosion rates can be tested underreal conditions.

• Duration of laboratory and field testscan be drastically reduced due toreduced response times of themonitoring system.

Corrosion Alert• Rapid information when corrosion

rates increase - corrective actions canbe taken before corrosion damagetakes place.

• Corrosion trends can be determinedmore quickly, and with higheraccuracy.

• Correlation between process changesand resulting corrosion is establishedrapidly and directly.

Inhibitor EvaluationTraditional laboratory screening tests often do not reflect the actual performance of inhibitors in the field. CorrOcean’sHS-ER probe in combination with high-resolution instrumentation, provides valuable direct metal loss data for inhibitorevaluation. The optimized design allows detection of metal loss corresponding to corrosion rates well below 0.1mm/year.

HSER for Low Corrosion RatesWhen the corrosivity of the process fluid is expected to be low, athinner, longer element probe such as CorrOcean’s HS-ER probe isnecessary to rapidly provide corrosion rates and trends. This isparticularly beneficial for systems where only a small corrosion rateis detrimental, e.g. heat exchangers and pipelines.

When positioned in an oil or gas export line, CorrOcean’s HighSensitivity ER Probe acts as an efficient tool for monitoring whethera corrosive water or glycol phase is present. It has also beensuccessfully installed subsea for monitoring of inhibitor efficiency andgeneral corrosion in subsea pipelines.

On-Line SystemsIn order to minimize construction cost, material selection and design must compete with corrosion considerations. As smaller corrosion allowances are considered, the requirement increases for rapid response and feedback oncorrosion conditions via on-line systems in critical locations.

On-line configuration is highly recommended for high sensitivity applications. For unmanned installations it ispossible to retrieve data remotely via data interfaces between the data logger and control system network, or throughdedicated modem links. See datasheet 158 (MultiLog) for instrumentation options.
