• Divider line – separates the dock between applications and files/folders• Left of the line is applications• Rights of the line is files and folders• Resize the dock by dragging the divider line up or down

• Add an application or file/folder to the dock by dragging it from its location to the dock.

• Stacks – opens when a folder is opened from the dock• Change the display of the stacks folder by right-clicking

on the folder and choose options.• Folder may also be opened in Finder by right-clicking on

LAUNCHPAD

Launchpad - displays all of the apps installed on your Mac.

• Applications are arranged in pages

• Reorganize the launchpad by:1. Click the Launchpad icon on the Dock to open it. 2. You will see icons for each app that is installed on your

computer. Click and drag an icon to change the ordering.

• Create a Folder in Launchpad by dragging one icon onto another icon

Mission Control - allows you to see everything that you currently have open, so you can easily access your open files and apps.

Opening a program

• To open a program from the dock, double-click the program

• To open a program from the menu bar• Make sure the finder menu bar is active• Click Go then Applications• Click the application you would like to open

• To open a program from spotlight• Click the magnifying glass at the top right of the

screen• Type the name of the application in the search

bar• Click the application icon

• To close a application, click the X icon at the top left of the screen

• To close an application from the dock• Right-click on the application icon• Click Quit

• To close a application from the menu bar• Click the name of the application at the far left

of the menu bar• Click Quit (application name)

Multi-touch gestures

Predefined motions used to interact with multi-touch devices

Pinch to zoomPlace your thumb and forefinger on the trackpad and move them apart to zoom in, or move them together to zoom out.

Smart zoomTap the trackpad twice (double-tap) with two fingers. If you are using a Magic Mouse, double-tap the mouse with one finger (make sure you are just tapping the mouse, and not clicking). The app will zoom in to the area where the mouse pointer is.

Swipe to navigateSwipe to Navigate: Instead of using your web browser's back and forward buttons, you can swipe to the left or right with two fingers (on a trackpad) or one finger (on a Magic Mouse). You can also do this to scroll through different screens in Launchpad.

View launchpadView Launchpad (trackpad only): Place your thumb and three fingers on the trackpad and move them together to open Launchpad.

DIFFERENT VIEW OPTIONS

ICON VIEW – allows users to view the contents of a folder or file as icons

LIST VIEW – allows users to view the contents of a folder or file as a list. The list can be rearranged depending on the attribute selected.

COLUMN VIEW – allows users to view the contents of a folder or file as columns. When a file or folder is selected, each nested folder or file can be selected to open a new column.COVER FLOW VIEW – allows users to visually flip through snapshots of documents, website bookmarks, album artwork, or photographs.

Creating a new folder

1. Go to the location where you want to create the folder

2. Right-click and select New Folder or go to File > New Folder

3. Type the name of the folder and press Enter

1. Click the folder once (do not double-click)

2. Press Enter/Return

3. Type the new name of the folder

Delete a folder

1. Drag to the trash

2. Click once and press Command + Delete

Empty Trash – Right-click trash icon and choose empty trash

Ejecting a drive – MUST DO THIS if you plug in anything to a USB drive.

• Right-click drive and choose Eject

2. Add some files to that folder by dragging the files into the folder.

of the trash to make sure there you want to delete everything in the trash. Once it is deleted from the trash it is gone forever.

Setting up iCloud

1. Create an Apple ID - Apple ID link

2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu on your Mac. Click iCloud, enter your Apple ID, and select the services you’d like to enable.

3. Enable Photo Stream in iPhoto or Aperture - Open iPhoto ’11 (version 9.2 or later) or Aperture (version 3.2 or later) and click the Photo Stream icon in the left column. Then click Turn On Photo Stream.

4. Turn on iCloud for the rest of your devices.

1. Click the + button at the top of the window.

2. Enter the information about the calendar event (i.e. PTSA meeting at 6pm on 5/3/13)

3. Edit the event as needed
