Anukampa Compassion in Action
SCVP London Newsletter
January 2017
January 2017 2
~ A message from the Headmaster
SCVP London is a place where children are
empowered and motivated to cultivate the
value of selfless giving and volunteering; a
place where children (and adults) learn about
the Jain religion and its
philosophy in a
modern, fun and
interactive way with
the use of arts and
crafts, music, debates
and discussions; a place where
creativity flourishes; a place where
friendships are formed and as is evident from the comments of
children and adults an enjoyable place that everyone looks
forward to every Friday.
This newsletter is the brainchild of the Youth Teachers who have
put in a tremendous amount of creativity and effort from
conception, through design and the final editing resulting in this
wonderful read. A bright start for the New Year and will, no
doubt, going forward continue to provide a stimulating insight
into the activities of the school. Well done to all involved! As the
pictures illustrate, 2016 has delivered some incredible memories
through the fantastic passion,
energy, enthusiasm and
motivation of everyone
associated with the school
especially the children (and
their parents), the teachers
and all the volunteers.
Looking forward to the
creation of more fun filled
memories and spiritual progress in 2017.

Thank God it’s FRIDAY!
“Committing my Friday evenings to SCVP, has proved, time and time
again, to be one of the foremost and most beneficial decisions I have
made. The insight of reminiscence has reminded me of the wonderful
years that have flown by. Without realising at the time, the dedication
of all teachers, that I have been fortunate enough to have been
taught by, has credited greatly to my knowledge of Jainism, moral
scruples and ethics. Week on week, without fail, every part of the SCVP
team, functioned, like a well-oiled machine, to produce awe inspiring
lessons, captivating the minds of Jain youth, to instill modern Jain
values. Additionally, the friends I have made, and times I have
experienced, have flourished and fused together to form an
irreplaceable childhood. Diwali, Paryushan, summer fair, Garba,
Samayik... The list is endless. Month after month, this institution has
never failed to enchant us with new events, functions and ideas.
Moreover, there is the youth teacher aspect of my time at SCVP. In
light of the fact that, it is a volunteer- run school, the skills I will depart
with are astonishing. Attributes such as communication, planning,
punctuality and organisation are all proof of how many skills I can
hone and improve. Overall, it goes without saying that I am indebted
to SCVP for the heaps I have gained, and am looking forward to a
successful and joyous future from 2017 and beyond.”
-Rishi Shah (15) - Youth Teacher
“My knowledge of many of the Jain principles was very limited prior
to attending SCVP, Anekantvad being one of them.
Anekantvad is a very interesting concept where it allows one to
understand that everyone can be right even though you might
disagree with their views. It helps you to try and consider the other
person's opinion and why and how they arrived at them. This in turn
limits potential arguments.”
-Chintu Shah (Adult Student)
