• Used for fence construction, or holding any wires in place.
Hinge Nail
• Used to fasten hinges on doors and cabinets.• Typically have a rounded head.
Plaster Board Nail
• Also called a drywall nail• Used to hang drywall on studs in buildings• Enlarged nail head helps drywall from pulling
off.
Roofing Nail
• Used for nailing rolled roofing and shingles• Commonly found with plastic ring under head
and referred to as a “button cap”• Nail used for metal roofing has a rubber ring
under it
Cut Nail
• Used for tongue and groove flooring• When hardened is used in masonry• Farriers also use these when attaching
horseshoes
Finishing Nail
• Used in trim, cabinets, and furniture in the house
• Used when countersinking is needed.
Common Nail
• Used for general construction where box nails are too small
• Used in framing, shiplap, and board fencing.
Box Nail
• Used for light construction such as wood siding and nailing into end grain.

Duplex Nail
• Used for making concrete forms• Two heads so nail can easily be pulled and re-
used
Twisted Shank Nail
• Commonly galvanized• Used on flooring or decking where wood will
shrink and twist• The twisted shank helps hold wood in place
